LA’s Local Natives have announced their sixth studio album, But I’ll Wait For You, out April 19th via Loma Vista Recordings. The new album will be followed by a 13-date North American tour that kicks off May 4 at BeachLife Festival in Redondo Beach, CA.
But I’ll Wait For You, is a culmination of nearly two decades of brotherhood, and a mantra of reassurance in response to relentless changes. In a statement about the album the Local Natives said “But I’ll Wait For You is the companion piece to our 2023 release Time Will Wait For No One. Maybe not an answer to a question but an exhale to an inhale. There is so little that’s in our control but among all this chaos, we can choose to be there for each other.”
The album showcases the band’s seminal harmonies as well as an adventurousness that explores new territory for the Local Natives. It’s accompanied by single “April,” a driving and yearning track with pristine harmonies that comes with a playful, cinematic video inspired by Francis Ford Coppola’s film The Conversation. Directed by Jon Chu, the one shot video culminates in a scene of the band performing a choreographed dance in LA’s Pershing Square.
Today, Local Natives debuted their latest track, “April,” exclusively on Sirius XMU. XMU is set to showcase a total of 4 songs, all performed in their rawest form, on April 19th. The band also performed this past weekend at Wild Honey Pie’s apres-ski event “On The Mountain 4.”
But I’ll Wait For You is now available to pre-order digitally with the physical pre-order going live on Tuesday, March 26.
2023’s Time Will Wait For No One was produced by GRAMMY-award winning producer John Congleton (Angel Olsen, Death Cab For Cutie, St. Vincent, Sharon Van Etten), Michael Harris (Lana Del Rey, Feist), and Danny Reisch (Sun June, Other Lives).
Based in Los Angeles, the group progressed their sound over the course of five full-length albums. In the span of one year the band performed twice on Jimmy Kimmel Live! For the first performance they were accompanied by Sharon Van Etten playing “Lemon feat. Sharon Van Etten” off the Sour Lemon EP. They closed out 2021 with a performance of Roxy Music’s “More Than This” from Music From The Pen Gala 1983, an EP coinciding with their appearance in the Apple Original Series The Shrink Next Door starring Paul Rudd and Will Ferrell. Local Natives have received praise from Pitchfork, Consequence of Sound, The Guardian and many more. In between countless sold out shows and festival appearances – including a standout Coachella 2017 set – they’ve graced the stages of Austin City Limits, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Late Show With David Letterman, The Late Late Show With James Corden, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and more.
