G*Starr Ent./Geffen Records breakout rapper J.I. the Prince of NY has shared his star-studded collaboration with Chicago rapper Lil Durk and Canadian producer/rapper, Nav with an accompanying video today. The elevated track comes on the heels of his critically acclaimed label debut EP, Welcome to G*Starr, Vol. 1. In the visual directed by Eif Rivera and Jon J (Future, Lil Baby, Pop Smoke); shot in Atlanta, we see the pain behind the melodic and lyrical track – each rapper smoothly debates their experiences with money, relationships, and humble beginnings.
In 2019, J.I. released two projects , “Hood Life Krisis Vol. 1 and Vol. 2,” both found J.I. living up to his title as Prince of the Big Apple. His track “Need Me” (from Vol. 1), became an anthem in the city with over 120 million streams to date (nearly 400 million streams across his entire catalog). The young artist also went on to tour in support of both projects (first artist ever to sell out 3 consecutive nights at New York’s legendary venue, SOB’s), then kicked off the summer of 2020 with his collaboration with fellow NY rapper, Lil Tjay with “Hood Scars 2.” On July 15th, Spotify announced J.I. to be their second U.S. artist to be part of their global program called “RADAR,” which shares the stories of new emerging global artists with their users. They paired up for a six -minute documentary, Spotify x RADAR Presents: J.I the Prince of N.Y, which highlights the ups and downs of his journey to star-dom. Watch HERE. A busy year for the 18-year-old, last month the Brooklyn-bred star shared his label debut EP, Welcome To Gtarr Vol. 1 which has gone on to receive high praise from Billboard, Complex, XXL, amongst others.
