Brooklyn-based duo Daisy the Great have released their boisterous new sad girl anthem “Cry In The Mirror” via S-Curve Records. The new song follows “Glitter,” which Billboard called “smooth, intricate” and hit single “Record Player” with AJR, which hit top 5 at Alt Radio and is currently climbing the Top 40 and Adult Pop radio charts.
Daisy the Great is on tour across the U.S. with Half Alive, and have also confirmed 8 festivals for 2022 including Firefly and Wonderbus.
“Cry In The Mirror” is a harmonically-rich, introspective track about the banality of the day to day struggle that comes with mental health issues; it’s accompanied by a mind-bending video directed by Dillon Dowdell (Wallows, The Regrettes) that looks like it was born out of a trippy, colorful fever-dream that is set in an old school ice-cream shop. The band is currently touring the US – this week they performed a sold out show at NYC’s Irving Plaza with half•alive.
On the track, Daisy The Great’s Kelley Nicole Dugan and Mina Walker say, “‘Cry in the Mirror’ is about trying to get to the bottom of your feelings amidst a cultural fascination with sadness and public vulnerability. It comes from a place of trying to understand yourself, but in this world where everything is documented and posted and witnessed, you can end up feeling like you’re experiencing your own life through a lens of how others would see you.”
As Daisy The Great, Kelley and Mina make a folk-inflected indie rock that spans a multitude of moods—capable of being clever, devastating, or both simultaneously, spanning harmony-laden folk pop to powerhouse indie rock balladry with their intricate and impossible to resist music.
Mina and Kelley started writing music together in 2016 and over the last couple of years, Daisy The Great has supported acts like Indigo Girls, Sidney Gish, and Samia. Refinery 29 says the dynamic duo is “joining a larger chorus of female pop musicians that are leaning into anarchy and melancholia” with their intimate, tactile lyrical observations, sung through beautiful, heartfelt harmonies.
