Gary Clark Jr delivers soulful longing and palpable emotion in his new single, “Take Me Down,” for the upcoming film, Deepwater Horizon. The song, which is featured on the soundtrack and in the film (centering around the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and the people who fought to survive and make it back home) is the perfect to accompany the story, as you can practically feel the longing to go home and be reunited with loved ones in Gary Clark Jr’s vocals.
Opening the song is simplistic and warm acoustic guitar work accompanied by harmonica, which only grows as the song progresses. Soulful guitar wails over Gary Clark Jr’s vocals as he croons, “Take me down south,” while the acoustic guitar work and drums only become louder among beautiful backing vocals. Then, just as the song began, it fades out with a slow, simplistic ending, leaving you longing for more.
Fans can purchase “Take Me Down” now and pick up the full Deepwater Horizon soundtrack on September 23rd. Deepwater Horizon is in theaters on September 30th.

Incredibly moving film. Incredible song to complete this tragic and unnecessary tragedy. Corporate greed will not have the best of us. Peace, Love, and Gary Clark Jr.
