South African producer, songwriter, & artist Cubbi is introducing himself to the world with his debut single, “Rippling.” This single marks the start of a consistent roll out that will culminate in a stunning 6 song EP later this Spring.
A master of combining dynamic melodies with authentic, raw lyricism, and indie-electronic beats, Cubbi has created a sound reminiscent of the likes of James Blake and Frank Ocean, while still maintaining a unique sound. Cubbi has already been making industry waves with his heart-wrenching tunes that tackle difficult and deeply personal topics such as sexuality, mental illness, and drug abuse. Now, the Cape Town native is ready to introduce his music to the rest of the world.
At first, “Rippling” may seem like a love song, but as Cubbi explains, “it’s actually a song about mental illness, and how it affects the creation of my music and art. The hook, ‘One touch is all I need, you send my body rippling don’t you see’ is about how those overwhelming moments can allow you to see or feel something very clearly, something that might otherwise be hard to understand, and those moments of clarity really inspire me when it come to self reflection and writing music for myself. So yeah, I guess it is a love song but one to mental illness.”
Listen to “Rippling” out everywhere now and stay tuned for more from this blossoming indie-electronic artist.
