Sick of the summer concert season yet? We sure hope not, because things are finally in full swing and there are a ton of great shows coming through Colorado in July! Although some of the biggest festivals of the summer have come and gone already (both the Vans Warped Tour and Westward Music Showcase were last month) it was nearly impossible to choose the best shows in Denver and the surrounding areas this coming month. The result is ten diverse and exciting shows ranging from small (like local pop-punk band Almost, Maine‘s headliner at The Marquis) to massive (The Avett Brothers‘ annual stint at Red Rocks Amphitheatre) rock to pop to hip-hop. Colorado has a thriving, colorful music scene, and what better way to celebrate than checking out some great artists this month?
As always, let us know which shows you’re excited to see this month in the comments! Who should we check out in August? Let us know!
7/6 – Almost, Maine @ The Marquis Theater
Denver pop-punk band Almost, Maine just released their new album, Stories in June and are celebrating with an album release show at The Marquis Theater alongside Not My Weekend and I’m Glad It’s You as well as fellow local pop-punk acts From Thin Air and Rain In July. Not only does this show celebrate Almost, Maine’s killer new album, but it also marks a one night only return to the stage for From Thin Air. This is a show you won’t want to miss if you love local music!
7/7 – This Wild Life @ The Bluebird Theater
Acoustic duo This Wild Life just kicked off their headlining tour alongside A Will Away and Dryjacket and their show at The Bluebird marks one of their largest headlining gigs in Denver to date! The band is touring in support of their 2016 album, Low Tides and just recently released their new single, “Break Me.” Earlier this year, they also released a few covers of artists ranging from Beartooth to Blink 182 and we’re hoping that they’ll be playing some of these on the road as well!
7/8 – Ghost @ The Fillmore Auditorium
Ghost are currently out on the road supporting Iron Maiden on their massive headlining tour, but in between dates, they’re staying busy by playing their own headlining gigs. Although the Iron Maiden tour skips Denver, Ghost will be bringing their theatrical show to The Fillmore Auditorium. With a live show that you really just need to see to believe, you need to grab tickets to this show before they’re gone!
7/9 – The Avett Brothers @ Red Rocks Amphitheatre
Every summer, you can count on The Avett Brothers playing a show (or three) at Red Rocks, and if you’ve had the chance to catch them at least once in the past six or so years, then you know why these shows always sell out (and you probably already have tickets). This year is no different, finding the band playing three nights back to back at the historic amphitheatre once more. Although two nights are already sold out, tickets are still available to night three, and if you haven’t had the chance to catch them before, it’s well worth it to do so now.
7/14 – All Time Low @ The Fillmore Auditorium
All Time Low are known for their hilarious and high energy performances and the band is sure to pull out all of the stops for their headlining tour in support of their recently released album, Last Young Renegade. Rounding out the perfect lineup are Waterparks, who recently played to an enthusiastic near sold-out crowd at The Marquis, SWMRS and The Wrecks.
7/18 – Wolf Alice @ Globe Hall
If you haven’t had the chance to check out Globe Hall yet, then Wolf Alice‘s upcoming headlining show is the perfect chance to do so. The band recently released their energetic new single, “Yuk Foo” and promise to put on a killer show on this tiny stage. If that’s not enough to convince you, then maybe some awesome BBQ before the show or a huge back patio to hang out on a nice summer night will.
7/22 – Descendents @ The Fillmore Auditorium
Honestly, do you really need a reason to catch Descendents at The Fillmore? This show marks the band’s first headlining performance in Denver following the release of their new album, Hypercaffium Spazzinate last year, and if their performance at Riot Fest was any indicator, this show is a must-see. Although the ideal Descendents show would be at The Marquis or even Summit Music Hall, we’re certain that they’ll be able to put on a killer show at the much larger Fillmore.
7/25 – Sir Sly @ The Black Sheep
Sir Sly are a bit unconventional and that’s exactly what makes the drive to Colorado Springs worth it for this show. The band just released their new album, Don’t You Worry, Honey which seamlessly blends elements of rock, pop and hip-hop to create something a little weird and incredibly unique. We urge you to check out the album’s lead single, “High” – it’s sure to get stuck in your head in no time.
7/27 – AFI & Circa Survive @ Red Rocks Amphitheatre
Earlier this year, AFI played to a passionate and enthusiastic sold-out crowd at The Gothic and now they’re taking things to the next level with a massive gig at Red Rocks Amthitheatre alongside Circa Survive and Citizen. We’re surprised that this monumental show hasn’t sold out yet, so get tickets while you can!
7/28 – Travellers Music @ Lost Lake Lounge
If you didn’t get a chance to catch Travellers Music at Larimer Lounge back in April, then this intimate show at Lost Lake is just for you. There’s no arguing that Denver has a bustling indie-rock scene, but our city’s hip-hop scene is thriving as well, and this independent collective is proof of that. Travellers Music is known for attacking a wide variety of subject matter while maintaining a high-energy, action packed show, making Lost Lake the perfect setting for this one.
