Bright Light Bright Light – Life Is Easy

Bright Light Bright Light Life Is Easy

    Review by Dom Vigil

Bright Light Bright Light honestly couldn’t have chosen a better time of the year to release Life Is Easy. By the end of the first track, “Everything I Ever Wanted,” it was apparent that I’d be jamming this album all summer, and with good reason. Life Is Easy is a perfect mix of 80’s and 90’s synth pop with electro four on the floor beats, and is just the album I’ve been looking for this year.

As Life Is Easy progresses, I’m not quite sure what to expect, but I’m definitely not disappointed. Every track on the album is different and unique, but still keeps the beautiful, ambient and upbeat quality that I fell in love with from the first song and it only gets stronger as it goes on. The third track on the album, “I Wish We Were Leaving” is especially powerful. Rod Thomas’ voice meshes perfectly with Elton John’s guest vocals in this track and neither of them overpowers the other – instead both singers compliment one another amazingly in this song. In fact, the overall vocals are by far one of the best parts of Life As Easy. Rod Thomas’ voice is both hypnotizing and inviting and his vocal melodies throughout the entire album are gorgeous.

While it’s difficult for me to choose a favorite track on Life Is Easy, a few other stand-outs are definitely the upbeat tracks “An Open Heart,” “Good Luck,” and “I Believe.” All three songs are easily some of the high points on the album, and it’s a testament to Thomas’ talent when the album flows easily and seamlessly into a slower mellow track (“Lust For Life”) after these three songs.

Life Is Easy is just an album that is easy to get lost in. Every track is a perfect mix of ambience and dance music, unlike anything else that I’ve been listening to lately, making this album a stand-out for me. Bright Light Bright Light has truly captured something special and unique with Life Is Easy.
