Review by Dom Vigil
With their new EP, The Fear, alternative pop/rock band Night Argent are quickly proving that they are a force to be reckoned with. Only six songs in length, The Fear is an incredibly dynamic release, taking listeners on an emotional and sonic journey by the time it comes to an end.
If this is your first time listening to Night Argent, then the first two tracks on the EP, “Mannequin” and “Dreamcatcher” are the perfect introduction to the band. “Mannequin” easily blends a huge, arena ready pop sound with a haunting quality that’ll leave you feeling shaken by the time the first chorus really kicks in. This sound is further explored on “Dreamcatcher,” which still hosts some of the darkness that is established in “Mannequin” with an added intensity and guitar driven sound that keeps things chugging forward. Electronic elements blend seamlessly with rock roots to create something truly unique and genre bending.
The first two songs on The Fear are a bit on the slower side but the third song, “Heartbeat” really picks up the pace with a high energy, bright sound. “Heartbeat” is where the band’s pop influences really come in – it’ll have you bobbing your head along in no time. The next song, “The Fear” continues to step in this direction with a very bright and hopeful sound.
Bringing The Fear to an excellent ending is the stunning, “Dream Of The Ocean.” This final track showcases a stripped down and soulful side of the band, making you long for even more by the time it comes to an end. By the end of this track, it’ll be obvious just what Night Argent are capable of. In six songs, the band successfully explores many different sides of their sound without once feeling forced or out of place. The Fear will serve as the perfect introduction to Night Argent for many listeners and shows plenty of promise for the future.
