Leave The Universe will make a lasting impact with their debut EP, N.W.O.. Although short, these three songs manage to navigate not only different moods among the band’s post-punk and trap influenced sound, but also break barriers when it comes to tough subjects such as politics, isolation and depression.
Above all else, the songs on N.W.O. are aggressive and in your face, kicking off with the EP’s massive title track. “N.W.O.” is a call to arms written immediately after the U.S. election in the hard hitting chorus, “We don’t want that shit inside our heads/We’ll bring down the walls that keep our future dead” will serve as an anthem for those who stand with the band.
These three songs also offer a diverse look at Leave The Universe’s genre bending sound. Where “N.W.O.” is a huge anthem, the following song, “Paralyzed” is a poppy alt-rock hit. Then comes “If You Find Me,” the hopeless and completely vulnerable closer, which touches on feelings of depression and isolation. Sonically, all three songs are unique in their own way while still tying together in the big picture seamlessly, and lyrically, Leave The Universe are able to explore a wide variety of topics in a short amount of time on N.W.O.. With a future full length, the possibilities are endless for this unique trio.
