Review by Shannon Shumaker
Phantom is the perfect four song snapshot of Denver indie-rock band, The Backseaters. Complete with dreamy guitar work, memorable choruses and introspective lyricism, the Phantom EP is incredibly easy to listen to, but will also leave you longing for more by the time it comes to an end.
The powerful “Wander” is the perfect intro to the EP, easing listeners into The Backseaters’ sound before building and finishing with an epic conclusion. Sonically, it falls somewhere in between Jimmy Eat World and Turnover, with bright vocals contrasting with moody instrumentals. Perfect for rainy afternoons or late night drives, Phantom transitions from track to track with ease. The stunning title track, which is spearheaded by mellow guitar work, flows perfectly into “Found,” which takes on a more upbeat and energetic sound. Everything is then rounded up by the stunning “Ground Up,” which serves as the perfect outro.
Honestly, Phantom‘s only downside is that it isn’t longer. With “Found” shaking things up a bit before the end and the beautiful “Ground Up” leaving you wanting more, listeners will be eager to hear what The Backseaters will do next. Until then, you’ll have these four strong tracks to hold you over.
