Review by Shannon Shumaker
An undeniable push and pull between light and dark, joy and despair, can be heard on Return To Tower, the two-part EP series from Saints Of Never After. Following their 2019 release, Return To Tower Part 1, which featured only two powerful songs – “Make It Happen” and “Tower” – the Denver-based band has released the follow-up, which actually feels a bit like a sequel to their earlier release. Return To Tower Part 2 is a fuller, slightly more fleshed out follow-up to Part 1.
As a whole, both Return To Tower Part 1 and Part 2 feel very cohesive, complete with energetic guitar hooks, solid vocals and emotionally vulnerable lyricism that’ll cut you to the core. The lyrics really drive these songs and the energy follows, whether it’s within the uplifting “All I’ve Known”, the heartfelt, “Wherever You Go” or the gut-wrenching “Not Over You Yet.” Although a few of the songs can fall into similar songwriting patterns, there are a few moments that will catch you off guard too, such as the stunning bridge in the title track, “Return To Tower,” which gives the song a very cinematic feeling.
When listened to apart, the two halves of Return To Tower might feel like they’re missing something, but together, both EPs make for a very cohesive beginning, middle and end. There isn’t a single moment that sounds out of place, making these six songs the perfect way to truly get to know Saints Of Never After.
