SAINT PHNX are starting 2022 off on the right foot with their upbeat and anthemic new EP, Happy Place. The six-track EP is not only as the duo’s debut release with Atlantic Records, further cementing their place in the alt-pop music scene, but it also serves as a beautiful, moving tribute to their late father, whom they wrote it for during the final six months of his life.
Short yet sweet, Happy Place brings a hopeful, uplifting vibe to the new year, kicking off with the EP’s powerful title track. Sonically, “Happy Place” which feels like a perfect summer anthem – think driving down a winding mountain road with the windows down – while lyrically, it’ll pull at your heartstrings and hit home for those who have lost someone near to them. The five songs that follow (including an alternate version of “Happy Place” featuring Jasmine Thompson) manage to keep spirits high without getting repetitive. “Angel”, for example, is simplistic yet stunning, complete with some of the best vocal work on the EP. If there is an overarching theme Happy Place, it is absolutely “hope”. No matter the mood that you’re in when you begin listening to these songs, you’re bound to find yourself smiling by the time the EP comes to an end.
With each track, it becomes more and more clear that SAINT PHNX would feel right at home on stage at a venue like Red Rocks. With their sing-along ready choruses, radio-ready, uplifting vibes and catchy as hell melodies, it would come as no surprise to see the duo continue to grow exponentially throughout 2022.
