Short yet sweet, Jake Daniels’ new EP, Obsessed is composed of six dark, sultry and catchy as hell tracks that highlight the soaring highs and ugly lows of relationships. Carried by smooth vocals, powerful bass lines and relatable lyricism, Obsessed is a perfect taste test that proves Jake Daniels’ prowess.
Opening the EP is the aggressive, dark track, “Liar”, which calls someone out on being two-faced with smooth, hypnotic vocals. The following track, “Obsessed” finds Daniels swinging right back into a lover’s arms, though, in lines like “I can’t stay upset with ya / I’ll never say no when I’m next to ya”. Meanwhile, the stunning “Novia” is a classic love song that finds Daniels showcasing even more of his vocal prowess in high falsettos. Lyrically “Two Face” is easily the darkest song on the album, while “Drop The Match” provides listeners with a powerful closer.
The only downside of Obsessed is that it isn’t longer. Like the album’s title track suggests, Jake Daniels will easily put listeners in a trance with this EP, leaving them longing for more. And if this is just a teaser for what’s to come, then it’s safe to say that Jake Daniels is poised to be a heavy hitter in the alt-pop scene this year.
