Rising Swedish pop artist Paula Jivén has captured lightning in a bottle with her debut EP, The Duality In Me. Comprised of five stunning, creative tracks that perfectly showcase her vocal prowess, creative songwriting talents and ups and downs of growing up, The Duality In Me is the perfect debut to kickstart her career.
The five introspective tracks that make up The Duality In Me balance lush, twinkly, poppy production and vulnerable lyricism. While “What Are You Hungry For?” is a true celebration of Paula’s vocal work, “Say That” focuses primarily on the internal monologue that one goes through when trying to figure out what makes them happy. “Am I happy? No, but I’m not supposed to say that,” Paula expresses on the chorus, later going on to muse, “I need accept my world and my reality / Need to let it be.”
The last three songs on the EP go on to display the young singer’s versatility, with “Someone Always Knows” taking on a darker tone, while “Breaking Up With A Friend” addresses the complex friendship breakups that everyone has experienced and “Rude Girl” closing things out in a fast-paced, dance-inspired bop. Throughout the entirety of The Duality In Me, Paula Jivén not only shows absolute control over her voice – the runs in “Breaking Up With A Friend” and “Rude Girl” in particular are incredible – but she also proves that she is a chameleon when it comes to genre, mood and sound. Just as the title suggests, these five songs do an incredible job of showcasing each side of Paula Jivén.
