bennytheghost is flexing his songwriting abilities on his versatile new EP, 29 Palms. The follow up to his 2021 debut Supersonic EP, 29 Palms finds the songwriter and multi instrumentalist becoming more comfortable in his skin while showcasing his wide array of talents. Within just six songs, he manages to explore multiple different sounds and moods, from the trippy, dreamy opener, “Say Something” to the sparkling retro-leaning track, “My Boy” all the way to the softer, more laid back, “Cecilia” and everything in between.
With the overarching sound on 29 Palms falling somewhere between indie and pop, bennytheghost has plenty of freedom to test the waters with sounds on songs like “My Boy,” which has him proclaiming “I’d do anything to make your day,” over fuzzy instrumentals. Meanwhile, the infectiously catchy “Tightrope” is driven by a strong bassline and soaring falsetto vocals, flowing perfectly into “Haymaker”.
Throughout the entirety of 29 Palms, bennytheghost proves that he can’t be confined to just one genre, mood or sound. He accomplishes with only six songs what many artists struggle to do with a full-length album; creating a unique sound all his own that will be easy to pick apart from the pack. And he does it with ease.
