    GG Magree – Dichotomy

    By Shannon ShumakerMay 20, 2022
    GG Magree Dichotomy

LA-based producer and singer-songwriter GG Magree has made one hell of an entrance with her debut EP, Dichotomy. The dark and gritty, yet incredibly vulnerable and raw release feels like a glimpse into GG Magree’s soul, with each of the seven songs filled to the brim with emotion – be it love, heartbreak, longing, rage or pain.

Throughout the entirety of Dichotomy, GG Magree manages to both unearth her demons and celebrate love. The haunting “Deja Reve”, which boasts the standout line, “I’d let you drag me to hell if you hold my hand” sits alongside the vulnerable and soaring, “Eat The Love Away,” which finds her admitting, “My biggest fear is you will walk away.” GG doesn’t hold back at all, both within the EP’s spectacular production and the honest, raw lyrics.

Sonically, Dichotomy is a genre-bending experience like you’ve never experienced as well. Blending dance music, heavier dubstep, punk and emo, GG Magree has managed to create a sound that feels incredibly fresh, which is hard to accomplish in 2022. A perfect example of this is “Already Dead” which is driven by pop-punk influenced guitar, distorted synth and an electronic drumbeat. It only makes sense that she collaborates with fellow pop-rock pioneer Royal & The Serpent on the following song, “Bitch,” which blends their voices perfectly.

As a whole, Dichotomy absolutely lives up to its namesake, finding GG Magree exploring the highs and lows of love in a way that feels like a constant push and pull. Each and every song stands out in its own right, from the sweet “My Wicked” to the aggressive “Bitch” and the haunting closer “Blood Rush”. And if this is what GG Magree is capable of with an EP, there’s no telling what she’d be able to accomplish with a future full-length.
