The show must go on. It’s a saying that we’ve all heard, but those who caught POORSTACY, carolesdaughter, guccihighwaters and Snarls at The Gothic Theater in Denver this week are very familiar with the sentiment. Despite setbacks outside of the tour’s control (headliner nothing, nowhere. was forced to cancel his Denver performance due to a death in his family) the remaining acts on his current headlining tour chose to perform as scheduled, and for the die-hard fans who still made it out to the show, they were in for a real treat.
Opening the night with gorgeous three part vocal harmonies and a softer vibe than the artists to follow, Snarls were the perfect first act to get the night started off on the right foot. From there, it was clear that each act on the tour was performing like a well-oiled machine. With only fifteen minute breaks between each set, the night sped by quickly, with guccihighwaters taking the stage just shy of 8:00pm, easily amping up the crowd with his moodier, sing-along ready songs. With his new EP, heartbreak highway out this Friday, May 20th, he performed his recently released single, “crash my car” late into his set to the excitement of fans, before jumping into the crowd to sing along with them during his last song.
One of the high points of the night was easily carolesdaughter’s set. Her high energy performance was punctuated by her spectacular vocal work, as she switched easily between playing behind the mic stand with her acoustic guitar to leaning over the barricade to sing along with the crowd later on. Most songs throughout her set were introduced with funny anecdotes, stories or even the witty disclaimer that came before “My Mother Wants Me Dead,” during which she explained that her mom does not, in fact, want her dead.
Closing the night with an absolutely explosive performance was POORSTACY. While the three acts ahead of them might have had some darker undertones, POORSTACY took things one step further with their hardcore and nu metal-influenced sound setting the tone for their performance. Taking on headlining duties, POORSTACY mastermind Carlito Milfort Jr. easily commanded the crowd, proclaiming, “Let’s burn this place down!” before calling for the biggest circle pit that The Gothic can take (which is a feat in itself).
While it was no secret that many of the fans in the crowd had likely bought tickets for the whole lineup, including nothing, nowhere., Tuesday’s performance just went to prove that each act on the bill can easily hold their own. If you happen to be going to any of the remaining dates of the tour, it is absolutely worth showing up early in order to catch all five artists. They all offer something you don’t want to miss.
