Fans walked into the Gothic Theatre on Tuesday night with a sense of purpose. While many urged their way to the front to be as close to Tucker Pillsbury as possible, some patiently and eagerly awaited his entrance by dancing and singing along to the powerhouse show opener, THE BLSSM. Born in Sydney, but maturing their music career in Los Angeles, Lily Lizotte came to Denver with a passion for performance, which was clearly visible in their stage movement. They adorned a spunky patchwork plaid outfit, with pigtail braids and knee-high socks. THE BLSSM’s set included “NOT TODAY,” “STILL WITH U,” and a Spotify favorite, “HARDCORE HAPPY.” The latter, being their last song, was definitely a concert favorite, as many in the crowd knew the words and sang along. You could tell everyone in the venue was excited to be there, and thoroughly enjoyed this fiery set.
After some waiting, the anticipation grew as everyone waited to see Tucker emerge onto the stage. Role Model hadn’t been through Denver on tour since late 2019, and since then, his audience grew dramatically. From some of his earlier hits like “six speed,” “girl in new york,” and “minimal,” which fans shouted out for him to play, to songs from his newest album, Rx, he’s released a lot of music that people love and resonate with. The crowd largely consisted of screaming fans, some with gifts or flowers that they threw to the stage. Tucker continuously checked in on everyone, and joked throughout his performance, calling themselves the Dave Matthews Band, or announcing “thank you everyone, we’re Taylor Swift,” which also worked up the crowd.
The night seemed to pass by quickly, hearing new songs like “die for my bitch,” “masturbation song,” “neverletyougo,” and “if jesus saves, she’s my type,” which everyone sang and jumped along to. By the end of the set, as Role Model exited the stage, the crowd started chanting for “one more song,” but the house lights came back up and the venue’s music started playing again, signaling that the show was over.
Both acts brought such an energetic performance to the Gothic Theatre, and I would guess that after this night, some fans found themselves raspy and voiceless from all of the ecstatic screaming and yelling out lyrics.
