Much anticipation was in the air as the line wrapped around Denver’s Fillmore Auditorium for Kehlani on the Blue Water Road Trip September 26th, 2022. The beloved Grammy-nominated artist had to postpone the initial date, scheduled for September 6th, for health concerns, but that didn’t stop Colorado from showing love for her recovery and vibrant music vibes at the make-up show.
The night started off with Destin Conrad with a short but solid set of slow R&B setlist. Despite taking over for Rico Nasty last minute due to the rescheduling, Denver still showed love for his first performance, and he clearly made the most out of the night. That, and the spinning of classic tunes from Kehlani’s DJ, NOODLES, kept the packed venue settled for what was to come.
After a wait, the venue went dark as video of Kehlani’s daughter played over the white drapes, as a wave of phone lights light up the stage. Once the smoke settled, Kehlani slowly walked out in a cherry red outfit with blue lighting before the spotlight zoned in front and center with “Little Story” kicking off the festivities.
While her stage presence has really stood out in the R&B community, Kehlani pulled all the stops for Colorado as it was the last U.S. stop of the tour, and later said she felt she performed her best that night. From her divine vocals keeping the audience hooked, to the music shaking the venue and an impressive backing band, her time energy couldn’t be more appreciated and the show was well worth the wait.
