Brooklyn-based, Grammy nominated singer-songwriter, Kevin Garrett is hitting the road this week in support of his upcoming EP, False Hope, out February 3rd, with a Denver stop on February 6th at Larimer Lounge.
When entering the Summit Music Hall on Friday, I knew that I was in for a treat. With Anthony Green known for his untouchable stage presence and two impressive recent releases from both of the opening acts, my expectations were set pretty high, and from the moment I walked in the venue, the sense of camaraderie between the each musician on the tour and all the fans in the room was like nothing I had ever experienced before.
Corsicana, the indie/ambient musical project of 18 year-old Colorado musician, Ben Pisano, will be releasing their first full-length album on September 23rd. The album, Haven, is a follow-up to two previous EP’s and is a true testament to how much a musician can grow in three years. Today, The Prelude Press is premiering the second single from the album, titled “Patron.”
Jen Keller has had a busy year to say the least. Aside from the release of American Grandma‘s latest album Girlcult, Keller has also been given a position as the Creative Director at the local record label, First Base Tapes. Even with so many accomplishments under her belt, much more can be expected from Jen Keller and American Grandma in the near future.
Having not played Colorado since January of 2015 I personally began to wonder what had happened to the Denver’s favorite indie folk band. But then, with the release of their sophomore album, Cleopatra earlier this year, it became obvious that the band would be returning to Colorado very soon. Needless to say, The Lumineers were welcomed back by fans who missed them dearly with two sold out shows at the legendary red rocks.
It’s hard not to feel moved by Hotel Books’ latest release, Run Wild, Young Beauty, both because of the band’s heartfelt lyricism and the stunning music videos that accompany some of their most touching songs. Vocalist Cam Smith has made a point to write his songs about love, and the outcome is a gorgeous record. We recently had a chance to chat with Smith about the heart behind Run Wild, Young Beauty, his songwriting goals, and much more. Check out the entire interview, as well as music videos for “Run Wild, Young Beauty” and “Constant Conclusions” below. Interview by Jordan Altergott Congratulations…
Photos and article by Jordan Altergott Hearing Candy Hearts’ music is like looking through a scrapbook of both the good and bad moments. Each time I have seen them live, a feeling of comradery has filled the air. The sense of community that fans of Candy Hearts and first time listeners share during their set seems to be derived from the upbeat pop-punk sound, catchy lyrics, and pumped stage presence. However, this communal atmosphere really begins at the band’s formation in 2010. In 2010 vocalist Mariel Loveland left her niche of country music and started Candy Hearts to satisfy a…
Review by Jordan Altergott Spoken word poetry as music isn’t as popular as it really should be. Probably because of the simplicity instrumentally and vocally, but in all honesty there is no way you that can’t get lost in it. So the fact that Hotel Books’ double EP, I’m Almost Happy Here, but I Never Feel At Home might not be exposed to a larger audience because it doesn’t fit into a popular genre is a shame. Cam Smith’s vocals are filled with such authentic passion that he could make even the most calloused heart feel the deep emotion in…
