Lieutenant If I Kill This Thing Were All Going To Eat For A Week

Review by Shannon Shumaker  Lieutenant’s If I Kill This Thing We’re All Going To Eat For A Week is a perfectly cheerful, catchy and laid-back debut album. This record marks the first time that Nate Mendel (Foo Fighters, Sunny Day Real Estate) has traded his bass for a guitar and the frontman position, and the result is not only surprising, but definitely fulfilling. Right away (and throughout the entire album) Mendel’s vocals are not only soothing, but also warm and cheerful, meshing perfectly with the bass tones and simple but pretty guitar work. The sound on this album is soothing…

Photos & Review: frnkiero andthe cellabration Featuring: frnkiero andthe cellabration, The Homeless Gospel Choir & Modern Chemistry The Marquis Theatre, Denver, CO. 3/5/15 Photos and Review by: Shannon Shumaker Full photo gallery HERE Fans as enthusiastic as Frank Iero’s are hard to come by. In this day and age, it’s nearly impossible to go to a show and find yourself in a crowd of people who are genuinely excited about the band they’re about to watch, giving the musicians on stage their undivided attention. Usually, the concert-goers snap a couple of quick photos on their phone for a quick instagram post about “how much…

Milo Greene Control

Review by Shannon Shumaker Milo Greene’s new album, Control, is cool, calm and catchy as hell. Throughout the entirety of Control, the vocal work is soothing, meshing perfectly with eerie and hypnotic keyboard parts and simple yet gorgeous guitar work. Control starts off eerie with a short prelude track before sliding right into “White Lies,” with a gorgeous melody and hypnotizing vocals that hook you immediately. The song is laid back and easygoing, but not boring by any means. The cool percussion, almost jazzy guitar work and beautiful vocal melodies are more than enough to keep you interested. By the…

December In Red The Way Out

Review by Shannon Shumaker Strong bass tones, deep guitar work and captivating harmonies set the tone for December In Red’s The Way Out almost immediately, and it’s the eerie quality of sound and interesting musical choices that makes you stick around. The first track on the album, “The Call,” isn’t necessarily a song, but more of a suspenseful intro – perfect to set the mood and grab your attention, keeping you on the edge of your seat, wondering what the rest of this album will bring. And when “The Call” transitions into “Hooks and Splatters,” it doesn’t take very long…

Wardell Love Idleness

Review by Shannon Shumaker  There’s an undeniable carefree and charming quality about Wardell’s new album Love/Idleness that makes it impossible not to fall in love with. Right away, you’re drawn in by Sasha Spielberg’s beautiful singsong vocals and a key part in “Funny Thing” that compliments her voice perfectly, and by the time the chorus comes in, you’re bound to be lost in the music. Love/Idleness feels like lazy, warm summer afternoons, and it only gets better as the album moves forward. “Dancing On The Freeway” is the second song on the album, and it is much more upbeat than…

When I arrived at The Bluebird Theater about twenty minutes before Wardell’s set to a less than half-filled venue, I was almost worried that more people weren’t going to turn out to the show because of the cold. About five minutes before the LA duo took the stage, however, the venue quickly…

Gang Of Four What Happens

Review by Shannon Shumaker Normally, I try not to compare a band’s new material to their old work when listening to it for the first time. It’s hard, however, not to notice the difference when a band parts ways with an influential member, and in this case, Gang Of Four has definitely changed with the departure of their old vocalist and co-founder, Jon King. What Happens Next undeniably steps away from Gang Of Four’s old material. Replacing grungy, biting, punk vocals and hard-hitting guitar work are thick bass tones, a mellow vibe and an electronic airiness in Gang Of Four’s…
