    Hippo Campus – LP3

    By Dom VigilFebruary 3, 2022
    Hippo Campus LP3

LP3, the aptly titled third full-length album from Hippo Campus, is the band’s weirdest and most experimental, yet also their most honest and cohesive release to date. Following their debut album, Landmarks and 2018’s Bambi, the band set out to create the album that they wanted to make, and the result is a clear success. Spearheaded by honest lyricism and some of the band’s most technical songwriting yet, LP3 will grip you from the very beginning of the fuzzy, glitchy opener, “2 Young 2 Die” and will take you on a journey throughout soon to be fan favorites like “Ashtray”, “Bang Bang” and “Scorpio” before coming to an epic conclusion.

All ten songs on LP3 seem to fit perfectly, as well. There isn’t one weak point on the album – no filler interlude, no song that one could go without. Trust me, I tried. With each and every song, there’s something new to love, whether it’s the hard-hitting lyrics on the opening track or the spectacular vocal and guitar work on “Blew Its,” or the dreamy, warm sounds on “Bang Bang” that fans have grown to know and love from Hippo Campus.

On the back end of the album, the band winds things down with the catchy as hell “Ride Or Die” before launching into one of the album’s strongest songs, “Scorpio,” which is complete with flawless vocal harmonies, a brass section that adds yet another layer to their sound, and honest lyricism that is a staple of the album. Closing things out are the epic final two songs, “Boys” and “Understand”, which will leave fans wanting to listen to it all over again.

While some tracks on LP3 might stray a little from the poppy, easygoing sound that could be found on Bambi, the diversity found throughout LP3 is a welcome change and only goes to show exactly what the band is capable of. LP3 not only sounds like a breath of fresh air from Hippo Campus, but the album also feels like a coming of age story for the band, and it’ll certainly leave fans eager for more.

    LP3 is available on February 4th, 2022. Pre-order and pre-save it HERE.
