Prelude Press: You had an incredibly busy and successful 2021 and just started 2022 with your first single of the new year! What was the highlight or the most exciting part of the last year for you?
Mia Rodriguez: Filming the ‘Shut Up’ music video was super fun! The dance I had to learn was a little advanced for me but I enjoyed the challenge. Being in such a bright environment and a boppy song made me so happy!
How do you feel that you’ve grown as an artist in the past year?
My mindset about reaching my goals changed a lot. I used to want to rush everything I did so I could reach for the stars and make it big! I’ve realised that enjoying this journey is simply the best part of everything. I’m much more content within myself and I’m not as self-critical.
You just released your new single “Shut Up”. What are you most excited for fans to hear on it?
I love the dreaminess and energy of this song! Listening to it just makes me wanna dance. I can’t wait for people to feel the same way!
Did you have any goals in mind when you first started working on the song?
I wanted to make sure people felt good listening to this song!
Lyrically, was there anything that you wanted to touch on with “Shut Up”?
People just needa shut up!
You got your start in music at a fairly young age – how do you feel that it has affected the way that you write and the music that you’re working on today?
I used to be extremely shy. Singing in front of anyone was even a big no no. I have grown in confidence by 1000%. My past self from 3 years ago would not recognise me now!
You ended last year with your new single “Billion Dollar Bitch” with Yung Baby Tate – are there any other artists that you would want to collaborate with in the future? Anyone in particular inspiring you right now?
Wow, there are so many artists I would die to collaborate with! Reaching for the stars here, I would love to collaborate with BTS! I’ve been a fan of them for a long time. I’m just so interested in their work process, producing songs and the visual concepts!. They’re incredibly talented.
With the new song out do you have any plans to release any more new music soon? Maybe an EP or album?
I really enjoy making singles! I get to make a music video with each one and it feels like every song is its own artwork.
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you would like to add?
The music video for my new single ‘Shut Up’ is out on YouTube now! The song is also on all platforms!
