Local Natives have released their new double single, “Desert Snow” and “Hourglass”. Inspired by a Joshua Tree trip, “Desert Snow” explores the duality of vulnerability and strength; both relying on the person you love and being someone they can rely on. Meanwhile, “Hourglass” is a warm, gleaming track beginning with breezy acoustic guitar strums, slowly shaping into an anthemic chorus backed by buzzy synths and bucolic vocal harmonies.
“After the heartbreak and insanity of the past few years, when we finally got together to make music again, these songs reconnected and reignited us,” commented Local Natives.
Speaking on “Hourglass”, the band said, “it explores the difficulty when feeling divided and isolated from some of the people we love most while knowing the time we have with them is finite, and contains some of our favorite LN lyrics:
“What I know now I didn’t then /
I know you wish I could forget
We’re drawing lines in the sand /
inside an hourglass”
This music got us through really difficult times and reminded us how much joy we get out of playing music together. We couldn’t be more excited to share these songs and play them live on our first tour in 3 years.”
Local Natives will be playing their first shows of 2022 and their first tour in 3 years, kicking off July 29th at Osheaga Music & Arts Festival.
