Machine Gun Kelly‘s thunder-storming of the internet and rock music mixed with the literal rainstorm sweeping through Colorado as doors opened in Denver brought a hail of entertaining and eventful performance from the Mainstream Sellout tour at Ball Arena August 8th, 2022. As fans walked into the arena, the pink bright pink helicopter caught their eyes, proving that the concert wouldn’t be your ordinary show and that they would isolated from the troubled world to enjoy good vibes.
The night kicked off with WILLOW taking on the stage as she dove deep into the pop-punk genre in the last year with her recent release, Lately I Feel Everything, and her infectious hit “Transparent Soul.” WILLOW made the most of her time onstage bantering with the audience and getting tangled up in the adrenaline, soloing with her guitarist. She gave a quick but memorable and enjoyable performance that even fans just settling in were tapped into the entire time.
After the crowd rocked out to some classic rock hits, the arena went dark with thousands of fans cheering in anticipation. A video popped up where MGK talked of being stuck in a box literally and metaphorically to get help from the helicopter. Once the chopper went across the stadium, he was lifted into the air and across the arena as “Born With Horns” kicked off the show. You couldn’t help but get sucked into the adrenaline of having such a bold and unique introduction as he landed on the uniquely angled stage where he proceeded to rock out with his bandmates.
Throughout the set, MGK called out the toxicity of the internet through the show’s story-telling, defeating the villainous internet set with confetti fireworks shooting out the helicopter – all of this ending with a song dedicated to his fiancé Megan Fox to run down to the front row to shake hands and meet fans. Once I got to take the environment in, I was honestly taken aback by MGK’s stage presence and the genuine love he had for the fans.
Seeing him run up arena stairs to hype up the fans, exchanging front row’s fits, spotlighting and dedicating a song to a girl who was dumped for dying her hair pink, and the overall energy he kept the entire time was a huge standout. It was easy to tell that Machine Gun Kelly left nothing on the table and I for one walked away with a new respect for his dedication – I couldn’t recommend the show enough.
