To say that Colorado has been buzzing with excitement for the kickoff of Steve Lacy‘s highly-anticipated Give You The World Tour at the Ogden Theatre October 2nd, 2022 would be quite the understatement. This comes as Lacy has gained well-deserved notoriety and success from his recent release, Gemini Rights, including his first No. 1 hit with “Bad Habits.” Die-hards waited since 11am to be front and center for the kickoff of the show, with the line going down for blocks in a way I haven’t seen in a long while.
Once doors opened, fans were taken aback by the huge and close stage setup, packing shoulder-to-shoulder with excitement for the night ahead. Spoiler: they weren’t disappointed. Frequent collaborator and another upcoming artist Fousheé kicked off the tour with a bang of vibrant sounds & energy that kept the audience energized throughout the set. Despite a couple moments of fans needing assistance, Fousheé demanded the spotlight with the help of her backing band and recent release, time machine.
After a wait, there was practically no more space in the venue but that didn’t matter once the lights went down. After a wave of stage smoke came over the stage, Steve Lacy jumped around, front and center to ear-piercing roaring cheers as “Buttons” kicked off the night. Needless to say Colorado showed love, screaming word-for-word the entire show while Lacy kept the energy high, jumping around, conversing, signing things, and overall putting on a great show.
There were points that even I had to pause shooting to sing along with the crowd during songs like “Mercury”, and once I finished shooting got to enjoy a wave of recent and older nostalgia as I’ve been a fan for quite a while. From personal favorites like “Give You The World” and “Playground” to the recent hits “Static” and bringing out Fousheé” for “Sunshine.” The night was topped with an encore of “C U Girl” and “Dark Red”, making for a great experience that I hope everyone can get a chance to check out for themselves.
