Denver band, Glass Human have arrived with their first single, “The Sentence” today. The track is taken from their debut EP, Timelapse, out May 13th. The groovy track is carried by a fun odd-metered guitar riff, jazzy keys, heavily subdivided drums and a prominent bass line. While the song is about the end of a toxic relationship, the music is light, groovy, and considered the danciest on the upcoming EP.
Glass Human’s upcoming EP was recorded live over the course of a weekend at the end of 2021 in the South Boulder home of guitarist Dave Sandoval, with the help of Ryan Sims on engineering. Shortly after the recording was complete, the Marshall fire in the South Boulder/Louisville region claimed the house in which the recording took place. However, the recordings were recovered and mixed by Sandoval, and subsequently mastered by James Jewkes. Emerging from a tumultuous few years of heartbreak, excitement, and unforeseen change, the aptly named Timelapse is a long time in the making.
Glass Human evolved out of the solo project of band front-woman Emily Shreve in early 2019, pulling members from several other experimental Denver projects. The band reworked songs from Shreve’s solo project into compositions to be performed by a four piece band consisting of keys, synth, guitar, bass, and drums. Their progress was slowed due to core lineup changes and the global pandemic, but regrouped in mid 2021 with Dave Sandoval on guitar, Jeff Malpezzi on drums, and Lehi Petersen on bass. The newly arranged group continued to solidify and rework the compositions from the original lineup. The music is derived from the diverse interests and backgrounds of the members, which coalesce into a sonic landscape that sways between ethereal textures, heavy grooves, thought provoking riffs, and haunting melodies, driving at deep aspects of the human experience while also maintaining a surprisingly accessible sound.
Fans can check out Glass Human live on May 13th at Enigma Bazaar in Denver, CO and in cities around the country this summer.
