Multi-faceted Swedish artist, Kasbo is back with “The Way You Had Me“, his first original solo release in three years. The new song marks a new sonic journey for Kasbo, one that explores the cathartic nature of dancefloor-driven music. Driven by a punchy, yet minimal groove, the track locks listeners into a mesmerizing spell while giving space to the spine-tingling melodic elements of Kasbo’s production. Still utilizing the many angles of his talent, the new single also includes tight guitar licks that add a level of depth to the record, which Kasbo has exhibited throughout his discography. Listen to it now via ODESZA’s Foreign Family Collective.
Speaking about the song, Kasbo said, “‘The Way You Had Me’ marked a major turning point for me creatively. I’d been struggling for months, if not years, to rediscover my place in the new and quickly changing electronic music landscape. This song felt like the beginning of me realizing that direction – covering new ground while still creating something that felt true to myself. The song itself is about a past relationship and coming to terms with a partner moving on. That period when you’re wondering if they’re just distracting themselves or if they’ve truly moved on, and questioning how what you had could be real if it could be forgotten so quickly… I’m so happy to finally be releasing music again and can’t wait to continue sharing this new era of inspiration with everyone.”
During the past years of isolation, circumstances allowed for Kasbo’s innate passion for DJing to be awoken. Typically a live performer, he was captivated by the nonchalant fun of mixing records with friends into the early hours of the morning. He then set off to perform his first-ever official ‘Club Sets’ at the end of 2022, in addition to releasing an exclusive DJ Mix for Spotify. 2022 also saw the release of “Blow The Roof Off,” a collaboration with Louis The Child and EVAN GIIA, a massive collaboration and marking the last release we saw until his return with “The Way You Had Me.”
Previously supported by Complex, Billboard, The Fader, Flaunt, DJ Mag & more, Kasbo, real name Carl Garsbo, first established himself as a sensation across electronic music with his transformative, emotional sound on his 2018 debut album, Places We Don’t Know. Following his second album, The Making of a Paracosm, released on Foreign Family Collective and Counter Records in 2020, Kasbo returns with a newfound reverence for euphoric club music. Through masterful expertise in sound design, the Swedish producer and songwriter continues to introduce music that connects and stirs on a deeper level with rare grace while constantly evolving to fit his tastes. With past tour support for ODESZA, Glass Animals, Louis The Child, & San Holo, plus appearances at Coachella, Electric Forest, Firefly, and more, Kasbo’s trajectory is set to reach new heights through the end of the year.
While putting his new passion for DJing into practice, Kasbo still directs much of his focus to his live show. Starting later this summer, he’ll be direct support for Jai Wolf’s ‘Blue Babu’ tour, which will see him performing at iconic American venues such as the Brooklyn Mirage, Mission Ballroom, Echostage, The Greek Theatre, and more.
With an increasingly expanding skillset, Kasbo has reached the trifecta of modern dance music as a live performer, a DJ, and a producer with more to come in 2023. Over his career, his music has resonated with listeners around the world, amassing a total of nearly 500 million combined streams to date.
