A Collection of Greetings, the debut album from Kellin Quinn’s solo project Haunted Mouths, marks a stunning departure from everything that fans have come to expect from the Sleeping With Sirens frontman. The dreamy, emotionally vulnerable release arrives at the perfect time – Valentine’s day – finding Quinn not only exploring new sounds and a softer, more intimate side of his songwriting, but also wearing his heart on his sleeve for ten songs that practically ooze love.
Produced and co-written in collaboration with Copeland’s Aaron Marsh, A Collection of Greetings finds Kellin Quinn swapping high energy guitar riffs and screams for an album that would almost feel right at home alongside some Death Cab For Cutie. Carried by understated, yet stunning guitar, piano and drums, the album not only flows well from one song to the next – a byproduct of the fact that it was written during a rather short two-week span – but it also features incredibly vivd and emotionally raw lyrics. Title track, “A Collection of Greetings” feels like being wrapped up in a warm blanket while Quinn promises, “Even when I’m worlds away/You still won’t have to wonder what I’m thinking/You set me free/For that, you will always be my heart”. Meanwhile, the following track really sets the mood, immersing you in Quinn’s world in lines like, “Say my name in the pouring rain/Morning fog on a windowpane”.
While it might not sound as explosive as anything that Sleeping With Sirens fans have come to expect, A Collection of Greetings still hits hard. These ten songs feature some of Kellin Quinn’s best songwriting to date, coupled with soft, emotional vocals and hauntingly beautiful instrumentals. It proves with each track that he is certainly no one-trick pony, and hopefully, we’ll be hearing more from this new project soon.
