Deleasa does a little bit of everything, and that’s what makes his music connect with so many people. With influences ranging from pop to soul to funk, his sound is not only unique, but incredibly catchy. We got the chance to chat with him recently about his new tracks, writing new music and his plans for 2015.
Check out Deleasa’s new single, “Kisses Blow” below!
For our readers who haven’t had the chance to listen to you yet, can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your music?
Well music has always been a real passion of mine and I have been playing in bands since I was real young. I started with pop-punk then played in a progressive rock band. I always did things with that DYI mentality. During all that I started latching to more mo town funk and sole and it brought me to where I am now as a solo artist. I feel I’m a pop artist but with a soul, funk and R&B influence.
You just recently released your single “Good People” – can you talk about the track a little bit?
Good people is written for all those weekend warriors out there haha… The idea came about after going to bar in NJ where they play a game called beat the clock… I saw respectable men and women break bad that night… My newest single “Kisses Blow” that just dropped is just a straight make out jam.
What is your writing process like when you’re working on new material?
It varies… Sometimes it’s at 1am with a acoustic guitar or sometimes I build a track out on my own or collaborate with someone.
Are there any artists that really inspire you musically or otherwise?
Stevie wonder with his lyric content as well as music. It’s just the things he has to say is always powerful. Jamiroquai is a big one cause they are just a good time to listen too… Man that’s a tough one cause so many come to mind, I could write two pages minimum.
What’s more rewarding – releasing new music and being able to hear feedback on it, or being able to play new material live?
Live all the way, I love the reaction we get live playing new material.
What does performing and writing music mean to you?
Everything…writing was always my outlet when I was younger, even if I wrote complete shit it still helped me with my champagne problems of middle school haha and as life progressed, music has always been there and now it’s my livelihood as well… Writing and performing is rewarding cause I love doing it and enjoy doing it for people who appreciate and support it.
What would you like listeners to be able to take away from your music or live show?
I want them to say… “I wanna hear/see that again” and “that Deleasa guy… I’d invite him to my next party.
If your music could change or accomplish anything, what would you want it to be?
For people to embrace themselves, to be happy, to love themselves, and to bring some positive vibes.
Do you have any plans for the rest of the year? What can we expect in 2015?
Yeah, gonna keep putting out new music and gonna do a run of holiday shows December 19th-21st in Boston, NYC and NJ… 2015 I’m just gonna keep on my grind and keeping putting music out and try to hit the road again.
Thanks for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Yeah, stop rubber necking…. Traffic sucks and your only making it worse
