Can you tell us a little bit about Vox Vocis for any readers who may not be familiar?
We’re a prog-rock trio from Houston, but we’ve had 9 different members over the past 4 years.
You’re getting ready to release your album, In The Arms of the Sun on January 22nd. Conceptually, what does this album mean to you?
It’s really a culmination of 4 years worth of effort, so to finally see all that work come to fruition is really exciting.
Was there anything you wanted to experiment with or accomplish with this album?
This being our first album, it was really an experiment on what direction Vox Vocis would ultimately end up taking.
How do you feel that you’ve grown as artists with the writing and recording of In The Arms of the Sun?
The whole process gave us a better appreciation for practicing and warming up. During recording it became really clear that some parts could have taken up less of our time had we given them the proper attention before recording began.
You also recently released “A Fire Favored” from the album. Can you tell us a little bit about this track?
“Fire” is one of the more personal songs on the album. Alex wrote it during a really vulnerable time in his life and we all really liked it, so we worked it into the concept. During recording, Stephen at AMR Studios really pushed us to slow the song down and make it feel larger than just the 3 of us. It pushed Zach out of his comfort zone behind the kit, but it all ultimately worked for the better of the song.
Is there anything that you’re really excited for listeners to hear on In The Arms of the Sun?
This being a concept album, we’re all really excited for people to experience the whole album from start to finish, but we’re especially excited for listeners to arrive at the title track at the end of the album. It’s the longest track, and it’s a total experience in-and-of itself.
On top of the album release, you guys are also kicking off a string of tour dates in January and February. What has you most excited for these tour dates?
We’ve been really looking forward to meeting up with some of the people we met on our last tour, especially in California and El Paso.
If someone is seeing Vox Vocis for the first time on this tour, what would you like their first impression to be or what would you like them to take away from your live performance?
We like people to enjoy watching the show as much as we like playing it. We take pride in putting on a show that is not only good musically, but also fun to watch.
After the album release and these tour dates, do you have any other big plans for 2016? Is there anything you’d like to do this year?
We would really like to go out to the east coast later this year. No set dates, but that’s a big goal for us for sure.
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Thanks for talking to us and taking an interest in our music! We’re excited to be featured on Prelude Press!
