With the upcoming release of their debut album, Distant Like You Asked, and numerous tour dates booked, 2016 is going to be a huge year for pop-punk band, Like Pacific. They have built up quite a bit of excitement for the album, especially with the release of their brand new music video for “Distant” along with the announcement that they will be supporting State Champs and Neck Deep on the AP Tour. We had the chance to catch up with the band and ask them about the album and the upcoming tour!
Interview by Nina Schirmer
February 10th kicks off the AP Tour where you will be touring with State Champs, Neck Deep, and Knuckle Puck. What are you looking forward to the most on this upcoming tour?
Jordan Black [vocals]: I’m looking forward to getting back out there and playing shows, meeting new people and playing different cities. The best part of touring is visiting places I’ve never been or most likely wouldn’t have visited. Just getting back to gigging.
You also have your debut album, Distant Like You Asked, set to be released February 19th. Are there any specific songs that you are really proud of and cannot wait to release?
I’m proud of all of them. I know that’s kind of a cop out answer haha. “Scarred” is my banger. That’s the TUNE(to me).
The songs you have already released from the album such as “Worthless Case,” “22A,” and “Distant” have really meaningful lyrics. What inspired the majority of these lyrics?
Lyrically, for me these songs cover a bunch of different subjects. Heartbreak to family death. A mix of both.
What are some messages that you would love for listeners to take away from this album?
Honestly, I’m just happy if anyone can relate in anyway. Not everyone goes through the same stuff as me but very similar. As long as it can make you feel a certain(whether it’s hard hitting anger or nostalgia etc) I’m happy.
Were there any challenges you came across while writing and recording the album?
With writing, not so much. I had a bunch of stuff written down and in my head. Recording was tight. It really solidified the content I had. The only challenge was working at my job till 4am and being in the studio for 11AM. Got sick a few times but it was chill. Sam is a damn genius and good dude.
So far you have a busy and exciting 2016 planned between touring and the album release. What are you most excited for this year and is there anything you would really like to accomplish?
Not so much accomplish but experience, experience new things, explore new places, play to new people. It’s gonna be a pretty hectic/awesome year for us. It’s literally only begun.
Which new songs from the album are you most excited to play on tour?
Distant is my live jam. I can just fuckin let loose and vibe so hard. I’m a pretty modest person and can’t take compliments well but when people say ” yooo distant is great!” I’m all like “hell yeah it is”. Hahaha.
You recently released a music video for your song, “Distant.” Can you tell us a little more about this track and the inspiration behind the music video?
I basically dated a guy while I was touring. I told him its kind of hard to maintain relationships for me because people get sick of touring/traveling artists. He assured me with distance things should be okay. Basically a bold face lie.
The inspiration for the video was simply instant gratification (to me). He could have whatever he wants (validation wise) by unlocking his phone. I was just a distraction. There’s way more to the story and the song but I’ll let the listeners relate in their own way.
Being based out of Toronto, how would you say the music scene there has shaped who you are as a band today?
We’re all from Toronto/GTA. All grew up about 45 minutes or less away from the city. Toronto has some amazing talent in all genres (Safe to Say, Six of Swords etc). Cool thing is people like a variety of genres here and we often get mixed billed shows. It’s tight.
Thank you for chatting with us! Is there anything else you would like to add?
I just want to say thank you for giving a shit about us. Thank you for all of the kind words. Keep supporting your local boys/girls and well as touring bands.
Music is pretty tight and we are VERY lucky to be where we are.
