Can you tell us a little bit about yourself for any readers who may not be familiar?
Hi! I’m Camryn, I’m a total goofball who loves to sing. I also enjoy long romantic walks to the refrigerator! I grew up in Denver, Colorado and I moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue my passion for singing.
How do you feel your upbringing in Denver has shaped or affected you as an artist?
Denver really is a wonderful place and I think growing up in a very “normal” place helps keep me down to earth and humble even though I currently live in a crazy abnormal city. I still go back to Denver often and have tons of fun there with my family and friends. That being said, I’ve always been able to keep the focus on my music and not get too wrapped up in the glamour of Los Angeles.
What was that shift from Denver to Los Angeles like? Do you feel that it has strengthened you as an artist?
Initially, the move was difficult. I left all my friends and I was adjusting to a whole new life. I got bullied a little bit when I first moved, but I quickly developed tough skin. Living in Denver was easy and everyone was nice and laid back, and in LA that’s not always the case. That is the best lesson I learned when I moved – don’t let your environment tell you who you are. I got a reality check and understood that things aren’t always rainbows and sunshine and that’s when you prove how strong of a person you are. In any career where your work and life are put on display, you need to be able to embrace the good and the bad. Having tough skin and determination have really helped shape me as an artist.
You recently released the music video for your song, “Machines.” What does this song mean to you?
“Machines” for me is about my career and the journey I’m on for success in the music industry. The idea of doing something ‘like a machine’ is like going head first into my passion for singing, performing, and world domination and letting nothing stop me or get in my way. It’s an empowering song and it makes me feel like I can do anything I set my mind to, and that was the way I wanted to make others feel.
The music video is really intense – how did the concept come about? What was filming like?
The music video for “Machines” is based off the book 1984 by George Orwell. I had just finished reading 1984 when we started talking about concepts for the video and I suggested the book as a concept and everyone loved it! Since “Machines” has such an empowering tone I loved the idea of a rebellion like in the novel and taking control of the story. I like to be really hands on in my career especially when it comes to videos and creative aspects. I had a vision for the video and I actually wrote the treatment for the video myself! Filming the video was so much fun because I got to see my ideas come to life, and had all of my close friends in the video with me! We all loved putting paint on our faces and doing the fight scenes as a team!
There’s a pretty open ending to the music video, so would you consider creating a second installment?
I haven’t really thought about it until now, but I mean who knows! The video ends on a happy note where we win the rebellion so maybe there could be a part two!
With the release of “Machines” where can listeners hear more new music from you?
I just released my new EP New Dynasty! It’s a great collection of 5 songs that I’m so excited to share with everyone! I’m constantly working on new music that I want my fans to hear, so lots of exciting things are coming!
What is the rest of 2016 looking like? Do you have any plans to hit the road?
Touring and performing are my favorite parts about being a singer and I can’t wait to get out on the road. With the release of the EP I’m going to visit radio stations and do some acoustic sets and shows so stay tuned!
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Thank you so much for chatting with me! I just want to say thank you to those who support me and my career and I hope everyone loves the new music! Xoxo Camryn!
