New York’s Echo Black are just on the verge of releasing what promises to be their best material yet, but to hold fans over until then, the band recently released their eerie new single and video for “Perfect,” which features guest vocals from Telle Smith of The Word Alive. The band are no strangers to creating great music with other artists (their single, “Burn Another Day,” featuring Davey Suicide is a perfect example) and with a vow to keep listeners on their toes, there’s no saying what could be next for Echo Black. But if “Perfect” is just a taste test, then the future looks promising. Read what the band had to say about the music scene in New York, Telle’s guest vocals on “Perfect” and what the future may hold below!

Can you tell us a little bit about Echo Black for anyone who may not be familiar?
We’re awesome and obviously we’re your new favorite band. 😉
We’re a pop/rock band from New York City. We live for music and love playing live and touring. I would say we’re a little bit AFI, a little bit Linkin Park, a little bit Lady Gaga, and a little bit Manson.
How do you feel the New York music scene has affected you as artists? What would you like to bring to your local scene?
New York is hard, man. Extremely large supply of music and, therefore, a smaller demand. If you can hustle and make it here, you can make it anywhere. I’ve seen so many artists burn out and leave the city. But the constant competition can make you thrive. I think we can bring a little bit of pop polish to the underground NYC rock scene.
You just released the music video for “Perfect.” Can you tell us a little bit about the story behind the song?
Well, “Perfect” was actually written about 5 years ago. I wrote the vocal melody and then it sat on my computer until I showed it to the Echo Black boys when we were looking to record some new stuff. They loved it, so we decided to break it down, put the EB spin on it, and record it! It’s a schizophrenic love song. Which is how I believe love can make you feel when it’s real.
“Perfect” also features guest vocals from The Word Alive’s Telle Smith. How did the collaboration between you and Telle come about?
When we knew we wanted a feature on the song, we began searching for the perfect fit. When we sent it over to Telle, he got back to us immediately and was super hyped on the track and we knew the match was great. His vocals were a really excellent fit on the track. And he was extra excited when we asked him to be a part of the video!
What do you feel that Telle was able to add to or bring to the track?
He brought a bit of dark magic to his verse and chorus. I think the song needs mystery and passion and he nailed it completely.
Last year, you released “Burn Another Day,” which features Davey Suicide. Can we expect any more collaborations with Telle, Davey or any other artists in the future?
Oh, it’s ALWAYS possible 😉 We vow to keep you guessing. You’ll just have to wait and see!
With “Perfect” out now, have you been working on any new music? Can fans expect to hear anything else soon?
We have new music coming out very soon actually! Stay tuned. We swere in the studio recently with Matt Squire and the results from that time were unbelievable. Super excited to get those tunes out there.
What is the rest of 2016 looking like for Echo Black? Any big plans?
Nothing we can talk about yet, unfortunately, but definitely some huge plans! We’re in a very exciting place for a band at our level. Every day brings some new exciting news.
Thank you for taking the time to talk with us! Is there anything else you would like to add?
Thank YOU! Thank you for liking the tunes and taking the time to ask us questions 😉
