Fans will be happy to know that I Prevail have not slowed down since the release of last year’s EP, Heart Vs. Mind or their massive cover of Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space.” Instead, the band is charging full force into the future with their new album, Lifelines out on October 21st. On top of that, the band is in the midst of a headlining tour with My Enemies & I and Bad Seed Rising and will be hitting the road later this year with Pierce The Veil and Neck Deep! Needless to say, there are no signs of stopping for I Prevail, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Interview by Shannon Shumaker
The past year has sort of been a whirlwind for I Prevail with continuous touring on top of the success of Heart Vs. Mind and your “Blank Space” cover. What has been the most surreal moment of the past year for you guys?
Arriving at the Altar Bar in 2015 for our first show after the EP release, we didn’t know what to expect as we pulled up we saw a line of fans around the club. Taking the stage that night was the scariest and most exciting experience of our lives.
You just announced your debut full-length album, as well! What are you most excited for listeners to hear on Lifelines?
We put everything we had into this album. It is a culmination of the journey over the last year and how songs were influenced by the new faces and new places.
I want to talk a little about the artwork on Lifelines because it is absolutely beautiful, as is the artwork for Heart Vs. Mind! How did the concept art come about and how were you connected with the artist?
Dan Mumford is an artist the band admired and we always wanted to have a project that we could work with him on. We reached out and talked about the concept of our EP and the struggle the between the Heart and the Mind.
What did the next step look like for I Prevail when you were setting out to work on Lifelines?
We had been working on various song ideas during touring 2015, Brian had ideas for lyrics and melodies and once we came off the road we had a chance to really crystalize those ideas.
Were there any major goals you had for this release, especially it being your first full-length?
We wanted to reach and push ourselves to expand our musical horizons showing that we had more to say then what was on the EP balanced with new sounds and new ideas.
How do you feel you’ve grown or evolved on this album?
The last year has provided us with many new experiences some good some not so good, to draw inspiration musically and lyrically.
What would you like listeners to be able to take away from Lifelines?
That no matter who you are or where you come from we all have common experiences that draw us together.
On top of the new album releasing later this year, you’ve also announced tour dates with The White Noise, My Enemies & I and Bad Seed Rising, as well as dates with Pierce The Veil and Neck Deep this fall. What can fans expect from these upcoming shows?
New Songs, New show and melted faces.
Can fans expect to hear any more new music from the album soon?
Yes, we will be releasing a series of instant grat tracks with pre-orders up until the album drops on Oct 21st. Our first track Scars was released on July 1st.
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you would like to add?
I hope we meet you in the pit soon.
