Interview by Dom Vigil
You guys just hopped on The Vans Warped Tour for the rest of the summer! How have the first couple of dates been so far?
Fletcher Howell: Amazing! We came in with little to no expectations. So far, the response and turn out has been great!
Being on the Full Sail stage, you are surrounded by a ton of awesome up and coming artists. Who are you most excited to check out this summer?
FH: There are definitely a ton of great artists on Full Sail! We are grateful to be surrounded by people who are hungry and talented. They aren’t on our stage, but couple of us have checked out The Heirs! They are definitely a band people need to check out.
On top of Warped Tour, you guys are just releasing your debut album, Continuance! What are you most excited for listeners to hear on the album?
FH: Really the whole thing! But the song we are all the most stoked on is the last track on our record “Not Afraid”
There are some pretty powerful themes of overcoming personal difficulties in life on the album. Were there any events in particular that really inspired this theme or spurred it forward for you guys?
FH: It’s honestly a culmination of the past two years of struggles within ourselves and our relationships. It’s our battle to come to a place where we were brave enough to get up and put ourselves out there again.
What would you like the messages on Continuance to do for your listeners? What would you like them to take away from the album?
FH: Life isn’t out to get you. You are the problem just as much as you are the solution! Everyone gets knocked down in life. If you can find it within yourself to get back up, the low points can shape you into something better than you were before.
You’ve shared a few songs from the album so far, but most recently, you just released a music video for “My Own Way.” What does this song mean to you?
FH: Just our own anthem in staying true to who you are. Everyone seems to have an opinion on who and what you should be in life. We are here to say your happiness and path in life is up to you and you alone.
How do you feel you’ve grown or evolved with the creation of Continuance?
FH: Sonically, we tried to take a more dynamic approach to this record than anything else we’ve ever done. We really like to think that the record has something to offer for everyone !
After Warped Tour wraps up in August, do you have any other big plans for the rest of the year?
FH: We plan on touring a bunch this year to really push the record! We don’t have a tour we can officially announce, but be in the lookout to see if we are in a city close to you!
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you would like to add?
