Interview by Dom Vigil
Can you tell us a little bit about The Call Back Academy for any readers who may not be familiar?
We are a hard working heavy pop punk band from the UK. We have been a band for about 5 years now, and we are hopefully at a point now where we can really push on over the next 9-12 months and really swing for the fences and see what happens! so stay tuned!.
You just released your new song, “Taking Over The World” – can you tell us a little bit about the track?
So “Taking Over The World” is a song we wrote a long time ago, and the idea behind the lyrics in the song, is to poke fun at being in a band, especially now in the modern music industry. Its the whole idea of your dreams as a kid of being a ‘rockstar’ meeting the actual reality of what it is like to be in a DIY band – its heavy and a lot of fun, just check it out!
Keeping with the theme of the song, what is an important lesson that you’ve learned since The Call Back Academy formed in 2011?
An important lesson? Probably just to hang in there, and keep believing that one day we could accomplish something cool with our lives playing music in this band.
What has been the best or the most rewarding experience you’ve had as a band?
For me personally, just meeting kids or anyone that genuinely likes the music we’ve written, and takes the time to speak to you after a show and say, “hey I really liked your set” – that makes all the bullshit worth it for me.
“Taking Over The World” comes from an upcoming album that you’ve been working on – what can you tell us about it?
Well… sort of, haha, let me explain. Basically we were in a similar spot to when A Day To Remember took time out between records, so they decided to release a track called ‘Violence’ to keep the fans excited. So we were conscious we have been quiet for quite a while, so we decided to put something new out there just for anyone who is a fan of the band, just to let them know that we were still around, so the track is more of just a little something to keep people listening whilst we figure out our next step.
What can listeners expect to hear on these new songs?
Our best work to date. We will pull out all of the stops to get our next release as perfect as perfect can be.
How do you feel you’ve grown or evolved while working on new music?
I think we’ve grown a lot, especially as musicians and I think thats the key to song writing. We always try to challenge ourselves when we write a song, so technicality is definitely something I think we’ve improved on everytime we put something new out.
With “Taking Over The World” out now, when can fans expect to hear more new music?
Hopefully sooner rather than later. We might put out another single again, but our ambition is to write a full length, either way, we will definitely be putting something new out within the next 6 months.
What would you like listeners to be able to take away from your music or live performances?
Enjoyment. Thats paramount for me. Whether you come to see us live, or just check out a song on Spotify or Youtube or whatever, as long as the listener enjoys the song then I am happy. As thats what music should be about.
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Thanks so much for taking the time to send us some questions! Yes! everyone fucking go listen to our new track ‘Taking Over The World’!!!
