Interview by Dom Vigil
Can you tell us a little bit about The Catching for any readers who may not be familiar?
Yes of course!! We are a pop rock band based out of Asbury Park, New Jersey. We just released our first EP to the world and have been a band for 3 years developing our craft trying to reach everybody’s ears and hearts of course…
Although The Catching wasn’t officially formed until 2014, you’ve known one another for quite a while. How do you feel this has helped you when writing and creating music together?
We’re best friends so it’s easy to agree on things creatively and in general. We all know each others roles, however, we all know that each member has potential to branch out too. Drew who usually hits me with awesome beats walked out of the bathroom with a melody for me the other day and I couldn’t have been happier just knowing we all influence each other. We are all working for ourselves and each other.
Who have been some of your biggest musical influences?
Bands like U2, Green Day, Kings of Leon and more are our favs and biggest influences but we all grew up listening to classic rock like Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Who, etc… as well as early 2000s pop rock.
You just released your debut EP Teenage Fiction Part 1 back in September! What influenced the songs on the EP?
Our everyday living and social situations especially lyrically for me. I wrote about everything from my growing teenage perspective but honestly all of those developmental hours we spent working at becoming a better band show in the music but also hint at something even bigger. It’s a great base to start from.
It being your debut EP, did you have any major goals in mind when working on these songs?
Not really aside from making sure each song was given the care and time it deserved. We write very naturally and each song is different but cohesive.
Can listeners expect a Teenage Fiction Part 2 to follow anytime soon?
Yes! In the near future. We have tons of awesome songs that are in the works. It’s gonna be the best.
In support of Teenage Fiction Part 1, you embarked on the unique High School Nation Tour, where you’re performing at schools across the country! How did the idea for this tour come about?
Our team of people know their team of people and thought “wow this bands audience is mainly teens what better way to reach teens than going to high schools themselves.” We got in touch and from there it worked. We love this tour so much. It’s amazing.
What can fans expect from these upcoming shows?
How much we love what we do because we put that passion into our live show.
Do you have any other big plans for the rest of 2016 or beginning of 2017?
Working on the next EP and Digitour for the rest of this year. 2017 things are still in the works but we have some great stuff we are lining up touring wise that we can’t discuss yet as well as just general progression of the band.
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Thank you!! Yes. Thank you to everyone that has helped us along he way. Your support is everything to us. I’d also like to shout out each band member and let them know that I am proud of how far they’ve come and I can’t wait to conquer even more with them.
