The World Over frontwoman Tiaday Ball said it perfectly when talking about the band’s new EP, Mountains – they’re going to take the world over one fan at a time. With the post-hardcore roots from their first album, Rampart District, the group have refined their sound and focused on the things that are important to them, most importantly creating music with meaning. With Mountains out now, The World Over are ready to charge headfirst into 2017, and we can’t wait to see what they do next!
Interview by Dom Vigil
Can you tell us a little bit about The World Over for any readers who may not be familiar?
Of course! My name is Tiaday and I’m the vocalist. We have Ryan on guitar, Donovan on bass and Tony on drums.
T.W.O. was created in 2013 by founding musicians (myself and Ryan included) who had all moved to Los Angeles from around the world with the mutual goal to make music. We conceptualized a band who could represent many different cultures and promote messages of hope and empowerment! Our original lineup had consisted of band members from all over (France, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Connecticut) so we really wanted to have a name that could represent our diverse cultures. ‘The World Over’ just felt right and even though our most diverse member couldn’t remain in the band, it still holds true to us in other ways and continuity is important. We will take The World Over one fan at a time!
You guys just released your new EP, Mountains. Were there any events in particular that inspired this release?
With the loss of a good portion of our original lineup, we felt like we needed a fresh start and a new sound that represented us better.
Did you have any major goals when working on these songs?
Our main goal was to evolve our sound and as a band in general. We wanted to put out new music that felt like ‘us’.
How do you feel you’ve grown between Rampart District and Mountains?
We feel like Mountains is a lot more mature. It’s not about showing off what we can do as musicians, but more about just writing good songs that hold more meaning.
What have been some of the most important lessons you’ve learned while working on the new EP?
We definitely took on the “less is more” aspect to use to our advantage. We approached the writing process with an entirely different creative philosophy.
Your recently released the music video for the title track of the EP – what does “Mountains” mean to you?
This song in particular plays on not letting the obstacles or “mountains” get in the way of you achieving greatness in your life.
The video is beautiful as well! What was the inspiration behind it?
Thank you! We wanted to do something different from the usual band/action shots that we’ve done before. A lot of this record is about taking risks so our visual appeal had to compliment that as well.
You also have a few tour dates to round out the end of the year! What are you most excited for on these upcoming shows?
We’re excited to meet our fans, new people and explore more cities around the U.S.! Hope to see you guys out there!
Going into 2017, do you have any big plans or goals for the new year?
We plan to release a new single in the beginning of the year as well as tour as much as possible! Our next planned tour is in mid-late March.
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Thank you for having us!
