Youth In Revolt are gearing up for one hell of a new year with the release of their debut album, The Broken on January 20th! The album features 11 infectious pop/rock songs with post-hardcore influences, but easily the strongest aspect about The Broken is the powerful emotion behind the songs. The band gave listeners a taste of what to expect with the deeply personal track, “Not Giving Up” last month, and with the album out soon, Youth In Revolt are starting off 2017 on the right foot.

Interview by Dom Vigil
You guys are starting off the new year with the release of your new album, The Broken on January 20th! What are you most excited for listeners to hear on it?
I think I can speak for the band when I say that we’re most excited to showcase a wider variety musically than the band has in the past.
Were there any events in particular that inspired The Broken? What does this chapter mean for you guys?
Just growing up in general. The album is about finding your place in the world and the struggles that come along with it! This chapter for the band is really exciting for us because of the line-up changes! We have some big things to prove to the old fans of the band, and we’re excited to do it.
So far, you’ve released a few songs from the album, including the emotional track, “Not Giving Up.” Can you tell us a little bit about the song?
“Not Giving Up” is about having a friend pass away when you’re not on the best of terms. It’s a really important song to us, and despite the sad subject, it’s one of the heaviest songs on the record!
Can fans expect more vulnerable songs like “Not Giving Up” on the album?
Absolutely, this record has a lot of ups and downs both emotionally and stylistically. We want the music to be a metaphor for the ups and downs that we experience as we go through life.
What would you like listeners to be able to take away from the songs on The Broken?
Hopefully they can connect with it and realize that they’re not the only one’s that are confused and lost in life! We want it to give people hope. It’s an important subject to us.
How do you feel you’ve grown or evolved with the creation of the album?
As a musician, there are a lot of things on this record that I’ve never done before vocally, or at least on a record. Overcoming that wasn’t easy at all, but I think I’m a much more well-rounded singer because of it! I always want to push to become better and keep trying new things.
What was the highlight of your 2016?
Probably playing the first concert as Youth In Revolt. It has been a long journey from getting in the studio to being ready to showcase it live, so it felt awesome to get out there!
After the release of The Broken, do you have any other big plans for 2017? Could we expect to see you out on the road soon?
We don’t have a whole lot that I can say about that for now, but I can assure you that we have big plans and that being on the road heavily is one of our main priorities for 2017!
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Thanks for having me!!! I just want to say thank you to everybody who continues to show us love and support! It really means a lot! Also that we can’t wait to show you “The Broken”!!!!
