Since releasing their debut EP in 2015, Long Island’s Figure Eight have shared the stage with Such Gold, Koji, Light Years, Head North, Broadside and many more, and they’re ready to take 2017 by storm with their brand new EP, Forever. The latest project from multi-instrumentalist and producer Ryan Meyers combines the emotional sincerity of 90s emo with a hard hitting punk edge that gives Forever a completely unique sound. Interview by Shannon Shumaker
Can you tell us a little bit about Figure Eight for anyone who might not be familiar?
We are a band from Long Island NY, who like to play rock shows and eat fast food a lot!
You guys are getting ready to release your new EP, Forever, in February. Were there any events in particular that inspired the EP?
Just personal experiences and events that inspired some of the writing on the EP
How do you feel you’ve grown or evolved between your August EP and Forever?
The songs have matured a little. Everything is more to the point on this release and all the fluff and filler has been taken out.
What was the most rewarding part about working on the new EP?
Hearing it back when it was finished and being able to jam out to it in my car haha.
You recently released the title track from the album. What about this song makes it a stand-out to you?
Its a loud high energy song that I think really encompasses the EP’s overall sound
We played a basement show in south Philly which was really fun. New Jersey was also really tight, we played in a living room at a house in the middle of nowhere in Cape May.
Do you have any plans to do any more extensive touring after the EP drops?
Yes for the summer we are planning on doing a longer tour of the east coast, and also planning some short weekend tours throughout the spring.
With Forever marking your second EP, do you see a full-length coming any time in the near future?
Yes hopefully early 2018 we can have a full length out but were trying to not rush it too much!
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Thank you for having me, thank you to the people who have shown us any sort of love and support so far!
