Austin-based four piece, Thieves are currently in the midst of their co-headlining Rookies of The Year tour alongside Alteras, and with their new full-length No Motive out now, their live show is something you don’t want to miss. Although the band has dropped a handful of EPs since the release of Just Give It Up, No Motive marks their first full-length since 2011, and as they put it, they’re just excited to play some new songs for their fans. Thieves will be on the road in support of the album until mid-February, and after that, anything is possible! Check out upcoming tour dates below.
Interview by Dom Vigil
Can you tell us a little bit about Thieves for any readers who might not be familiar?
We started playing shows and releasing music in 2009. We’ve been touring on and off ever since, playing almost every state in the US. We’ve had five or so releases, but our newest is a full length called No Motive.
You guys recently signed with Revival Recordings to release your new full-length No Motive back in November. What drew you to Revival for this release?
Knowing that Shawn was running the label and had seen the life of a touring musician through his own eyes, we knew he’d probably understand our struggles and the support we needed more than other labels.
When you began working on No Motive, did you have any sort of goals or plans in place for the subject matter or sound of the album?
Not really. We just wrote as many songs as possible and tried to pick the best ones that made the most sense together. We just wanted to make sure it was the best thing we’ve ever written.
Although you’ve released a few EPs since then, No Motive marks your first full-length since your 2011 release, Just Give It Up. How do you feel you’ve grown between then and now?
That first release was more focused on presenting a more technical side of pop punk than people usually see, but on this new release, we just tried to write really well put together rock songs.
Now that it has been out for a couple of months, what are some of your favorite things about the album?
We had a lot of trouble recording this album, but I really dig the guitar tones Chris and I got tracking the guitars ourselves.
You guys are also getting ready to head out on tour in support of the album alongside Alteras. What on these upcoming tour dates are you most excited for?
We’re just excited to get to play some new songs outside of Texas.
What do you hope fans, whether they’re seeing you for the first time or not, will take away from your upcoming performances?
That we leave everything we have on the stage. That we give a genuine performance, no matter what.
After this run of tour dates, do you have any other big plans for 2017?
We’ve got too many plans and not enough time for all of them. Our challenge is choosing what to focus on. We’re already writing a bunch of new songs.
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Please stream our new album if you haven’t heard it yet! The entire thing is up on Revival Recordings youtube page.
