Ben Hazlewood is on the verge of a busy 2017. With a run of tour dates already wrapped up earlier this year, plans to hit the road stateside as soon as possible and new song, “Sail Away” out now, the only thing we’re missing is a new EP – which he promises is on the way soon as well. Fans can be on the lookout for EOS and in the meantime, read what Ben had to say about his new music and upcoming shows below.
Interview by Dom Vigil
You’ve already had a pretty busy year so far with the release of your new single last month and tour! What else are you looking forward to this year?
I am really focusing on touring in the US this year. It’s why I love music – playing live and being out on the road.
You just recently released your new single, “Sail Away.” Can you tell us a little bit about the track?
“Sail Away” is about the desire to let go. Having to break away from something that you have held onto so hard before it consumes you in the worst way.
Did you have any goals in mind when working on the song?
I wanted it to explain and project the inner struggle when being faced with such a hard choice. I wanted it to be rough, intense and true.
What would you like listeners to take away from “Sail Away”?
That even after the dark times there is a silver lining; the potential for a new, more positive beginning.
Do you have any plans to release some more music soon?
I released VANTA last year and the second half, EOS, is coming soon!
Musically, is there anything you’d like to explore moving forward?
With my songwriting I am focusing on making music that is as raw and truthful as possible.
You also just wrapped up some tour dates in the US! What was the highlight of those shows for you?
The whole tour was awesome! Meeting people who had come out to the show because they had heard “Sail Away” on the radio was the highlight for me.
Could fans expect to catch you on the road again soon?
YES. 100%. As I said before, my whole goal for this year and main passion is performing live. We are currently planning a full US tour in the coming months.
Do you have any other big plans for 2017?
Writing new material at the moment which I am very pumped about. Hoping to share that soon, too.
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Thank you! Come out and see me and my band live if we are near ya! We put on a kick ass show.
