Alternative pop/rock band Night Argent have been on quite the journey over the past two years. In 2015, the band won the Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands, earning them a stint on the Vans Warped Tour and less than a year later, they celebrated the release of their debut EP. Since then, they’ve been working tirelessly on the next step and this week, they’ll be releasing The Fear EP, the moody and theatrical follow-up to their self-titled debut. This sophomore EP, which was co-written and produced by John Feldmann and Steven Solomon will certainly launch the band even further, with six dynamic tracks that prove just what Night Argent is capable of. Read what the band had to say about their journey so far, their new music and plans for the future below.
Interview by Dom Vigil
You guys have been really hard at work for the past couple of years, winning the Ernie Ball Battle Of The Bands, releasing your first EP, and now you’re about to drop your second one. What have been some of the highlights of the last year or so for you?
For the new EP, we had the opportunity to work on several of the songs with legendary writer/producer John Feldmann, which was an incredible experience. Another amazing highlight was playing Warped Tour last summer. It’s always an honor to be on a tour with so many talented artists on their roster.
What have been some important lessons that you’ve learned over the last few years?
I think one of the most important lessons that we’ve had to learn is that there isn’t really a “moment” where you become successful. A lot of people assume it’s like a switch that flips from struggling to “made it”. But it’s more like a slowly moving fader that you constantly push up with relentless hard work. It used to be disheartening when a great opportunity didn’t immediately blossom into something bigger. It took us years to realize that each was another brick that we have to use to build ourselves up bit by bit, and that the final structure won’t just magically appear.
This month, you’ll be releasing your second EP, The Fear. What does this release mean to you?
This EP is our second group project, and the first one we’ve done since really growing as a band. But the biggest difference between this EP and our freshman one, is the team we have with us. Not only did we collaborate with some amazing writers/producers outside the band, but we also have a full support team (Management, Publicity, Label, Booking Agency) who are elevating the release to a level we can’t reach on our own. Which means our music will reach people that we wouldn’t be able to independently.
Did you have any major goals in mind when working on The Fear?
I’d say our main goal was to put out music that we were all proud of. We also wanted to show a little more versatility than our first EP did. Bringing in outside artists really helped out a lot with that.
How do you feel you’ve grown between your debut EP and your sophomore release?
While writing our debut EP, we saw it as a chance for us to test the waters, and get to know ourselves as artists, and in that process we discovered our sound. Since then we’ve been growing more confident in our sound, and with this EP we were able to take that sound we had grown into and expand upon it.
You also worked with John Feldmann and Steven Solomon for this release! What were they able to bring to the table to help make this your best release possible?
An outside perspective on who we are as people and as musicians. The writing process is a very personal and emotional one. We all see ourselves in very different ways than the people around us see us. John and Steve both were able to pull something unique out of us that they saw, that we didn’t realize was there.
Along with the EP announcement, you released your new single, “Dreamcatcher.” Can you tell us a little bit about the song?
Dreamcatcher was the first track we knew was going to be on our Sophomore EP. We wrote it and produced it with John Feldmann, and the lyrics really set the mood for the rest of the record.
With The Fear dropping this month, do you have any plans to hit the road this summer?
We’re in the process of planning out a tour to support the EP with our booking agency. We can’t wait to get on the road again.
Do you have any other big plans for 2017?
Touring and writing. Our two favorite things!
Thanks for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?
We’d just like to encourage everyone who listens to our music to come out to a live show if you ever have the chance. It’s awesome being able to share our songs and recordings with people around the world, but we live for the connection we make when playing the music for people in real time.
