Rhode Island alternative rock band Hello, Atlantic hit the ground running in 2016 with the release of their debut EP, Home and haven’t slowed down since. In the year following their formation and first release a band, Hello, Atlantic found themselves playing the main stage of the Vans Warped Tour in their hometown and moving in a new, more cohesive musical direction after splitting ways with their old guitarist.
With a strong drive and an even stronger group of musicians, Hello, Atlantic are gearing up for the release of even more new music soon. Until then, fans can get their fix with their new single, “That’s Discipline, Son.” Listen to the track and learn more about the band below.
Interview by Dom Vigil
Can you tell us a little bit about Hello, Atlantic for any readers who might not be familiar?
We’re a 5-piece rock band from Rhode Island, and we’ve been a band for about a year and a half. We dropped our first EP last year, and we’re getting ready to drop our second. We also played the main stage at Warped Tour this year in our area!
As a relatively young band, you sort of hit the ground running with the release of your EP, Home. What were some of your goals for this project when first starting out?
All we really wanted was for people to hear and enjoy our music, and play for anyone that will listen. We never expected to get on Warped Tour this early in our career.
Now that it has been out for a while, what are some of your favorite things about Home?
We loved having Josh Herzer Of Lions Lions featured on it. That was something we were all excited for.
You’ve had about a year to grow and write and reflect after the EP release, so what are you looking forward to now? What are you hoping to accomplish with the next Hello, Atlantic release?
We hope to reach way more people with this new EP. It’s definitely very different from Home. We can’t wait to put it out later this year.
Earlier this year, you dropped your new single, “That’s Discipline, Son.” What inspired this song?
“That’s Discipline, Son” is about the falling out we had with our ex guitarist. For anyone that wants to know the story, watch the lyric video for that song and let us know what you think!
You’re also getting ready to release your next EP soon! What can listeners expect from these songs?
The songs on our new EP are way more thought out than the songs on Home. We felt like Home wasn’t very cohesive. The songs by themselves were good, but didn’t fit together for an EP. You’ll definitely be able to see the progression.
How do you feel you’ve grown or evolved as a band between the release of Home and this new material?
After Home came out and we parted ways with our ex guitarist, we found Nick, and immediately started writing new material. With Home, it was mostly our old guitarist writing everything. Now, it’s a completely collaborative effort. We’re all sitting around throwing ideas back and forth, and you can tell by listening to the new music.
When can fans expect to hear more new music?
Keep an eye open over the next couple weeks, and there should be a new song out with the new EP out later this year!
