“Falling,” the debut track from 22 year old rising artist Isador is the perfect introduction to his world. Originally written shortly after he made the decision to drop out of college, “Falling” chronicles his own feelings of anxiety and self-doubt – feelings that any twenty-something will be able to connect with. By lifting the curtain on his own struggles, Isador mastermind Warren Heller is able to open up an conversation that most people are afraid to have – none of us are really sure where we’re going in life, and that’s perfectly okay.
From a young age, Heller has been drawn to music, so it makes perfect sense that it has become an outlet for the young artist. With the video for “Falling”out now, it’s no surprise that Isador already has a few more tricks up his sleeve. Interview by Dom Vigil
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself for any readers who might not be familiar?
Yes! I’m a musician and visual artist from New York/New Jersey. Falling, my first song and video I directed with my brother just came out.
What first inspired you to get involved in music and ultimately start this project?
I started writing my own music when I was 13, after I’d gotten a copy of Ableton from my brother. I spent all my time after school on the computer totally transfixed. I think music is a great outlet for me because I can do it in total solitude and work through my shit.
This project came a few years later when I was 18. I figured out how to sing and it felt like I unlocked another level of emotion I could express in my music. Things snowballed creatively pretty quickly after that.
You recently released “Falling,” your debut single as Isador. It being the first song that many people will hear from you, what goals did you have in mind for “Falling”?
The song just kind of just came out of me, there were no goals going in it was really just to try to work through these feelings I had, to process what was going on in my life. If the song can help other people process similar feelings that would be amazing.
“Falling” is a really personal track as well. Can you tell us about the story behind the song and what inspired it?
I wrote the song maybe a week after I dropped out of college. I was back in New Jersey very isolated, everyone I knew had moved away… I felt I didn’t have a future, like dropping out of college was a huge mistake that I wasn’t sure I could really come back from.
What would you like listeners to take away from “Falling”?
Well for me, the song and the video helped to ease the pressure I’ve always felt to think about life in such a linear set way. From there I was able to start to take things a step at a time in the direction I want to go in… So far so good! I would love if I could help others who are working through similar feelings as I am.
You also self-directed a video for the song. When coming up with the visuals to go along with it, what did you want the video to represent or look like?
For the video my brother and I took the themes of the song and turned them into narrative. The concept comes out of my upbringing, where I felt immense pressure to follow a path already set for myself and my life. In the video, any attempt to escape is met with the world fracturing to catch me again, and when I do break free, I don’t know where to go.
We wanted the video to feel set in a sort of purgatory state, where I was being dragged from nature to overbearing man/machine-made structures. For the concept my brother and I took the themes of the song and worked them into narrative. It comes growing up feeling pressure to follow a set path in life, in the video any attempt to escape from that path is met with the world fracturing to catch me again, and when I do break free, I don’t know where to go.
With “Falling” out now, can fans expect some more new music soon?
Yes! The next song that’s coming out I’m very excited for, I worked on it with my friend Andrew Maury, also there’s a video for that song we are working on thats maybe the craziest thing I’ve ever done.
Do you have any other big plans or goals for the end of 2017 or beginning of 2018?
I would love to get to the point where I am releasing things very soon after making them.
Thank you for taking the time to talk with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Thanks for reaching out! Everyone please check out the music video for Falling I co directed with my brother!
