NYC songwriter and rising pop artist Becca Krueger is getting ready to take 2018 by storm. Her hypnotic new single, “We All In It” is the perfect teaser for her upcoming EP, which listeners can expect to hear more of by early next year. These new songs mark a shift in sound for the songwriter, who explored a darker pop tone and experimented a bit with the production of the EP to find the perfect sound. For Krueger, who moved to New York in 2013 to enroll in the music business program at New York University and pursue songwriting, the experimentation with sound on her upcoming EP was surely second nature.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself for any readers who might not be familiar?
I am a songwriter and artist from NYC. I moved here a few years ago to follow my love for music and to learn from the incredible writers and performers that live here.
What first inspired you to get involved with music?
Music was an important part of both my parents’ childhoods and it was important for them to share that love for music with me. I started singing in school choirs and musicals and eventually fell into writing as a teenager.
On top of your own music, you’re also a freelance songwriter. How does writing a song for yourself differ from writing for another artist? Is one harder or more challenging than the other?
I find it’s sometimes more difficult to write for myself. I write a lot of my own music to help me work through specific events and emotions in my life and it can take time to find the right words to express those thoughts. Writing for other artists gives me the opportunity to explore other genres and help others express their own thoughts with music.
You just released your new single “We All In It” last month. Can you tell us a little bit about what inspired the song?
“We All In It” is an anthem for those fighting for their passion and uniqueness in the world. It was born from a struggle to let go of a difficult relationship and reconnect with the passionate people in my life chasing what they love. The song was created from a magical collaboration with some of my favorite NYC writers. We tweaked and poured love into the track for almost a year before deciding to release it.
The track comes from your debut EP, which you’ll be releasing next year. What can fans expect from the upcoming new music?
“We All In It” is the beginning of a brand new sound for me. The EP will reflect a darker pop tone and more experimentation in production.
Were there any challenges you faced when writing and recording the EP?
I wrote around 20 different songs and molded them each into a few different genres before deciding what I wanted to put on the EP. This was a long and sometimes frustrating process, but I feel the result is a true reflection of myself and my art.
What were some of the highlights of working on it? What are you the most proud of?
The wonderful collaborations and new writers I got to work with along the way made writing the EP a joy.
What would you like listeners to take away from your new music?
I want listeners to enjoy whatever piece of the music speaks to them. It may be one lyric or one chord that hits a certain way, but I’d like every listener to take away something new and personal.
Do you have any other big plans for the rest of 2017 or beginning of 2018?
I’ll be playing more shows here in NYC and hopefully around the US as well.
When can fans expect to hear more new music?
I haven’t set a date yet, but the new year will bring plenty of new tunes
