Interview by Dom Vigil
Can you tell us a little bit about Home Above for any readers who might not be familiar?
Home Above is a punk/pop-rock band from Austin, Texas consisting of four regular looking dudes. We center our music generally around the familiar sounds of 90’s-esque punk bands with different influences from each of us that we use to create what you can now hear on our new record, ‘Indecision To Move‘.
As a relatively young band, what would you want listeners to take away from your music?
I think currently we have all gone through, or are going through tough times in life and I want our listeners to know that you are not alone in your struggle. That’s what connects people. On that note, I also want everyone to know that the heartbreak, the heartache and the suffering we go through everyday, that’s the fertile soil that brings out the strength to move forward. The ability to say, “Hey, you know what? Im changing my situation.” or “I’m gonna find a better job and get out of this hell-hole.” It’s about knowing that if we endure through the hard times, good can and will come out of it.
You recently released your new album, Indecision To Move! It being your debut full-length, was there anything specific you wanted to accomplish with it?
We celebrate the small things. At first, when we began writing, it was completing the vision for the record. During the production process, it was learning how to finalize and make the necessary cuts/additions that benefit the record. Now that the record is done, we have already accomplished so much as a band and at the moment we are hoping that this helps us build our fan-base.
Were there any challenges you faced when working on the album?
The only challenge I think we experienced on this record was learning to understand what we wanted for the final result of the record. We all have different influences and ideas. This record helped us sum up our ideas and mash them all together but then picking out the good and the bad ideas! Also, learning how to fit studio time with everyone’s busy work/family schedules was difficult. Retail jobs can be so unforgiving sometimes!
What was the most rewarding part of working on the album?
We have had the pleasure of being introduced to such amazing and new people in our lives that helped us finish this record. ‘Rashida Jones’ is a track on the record that features just a portion of the amazing people we were able to work with. It’s totally rewarding to be able to work with people that understand you and want to support your project.
The theme of the album centers around self discovery and self motivation. What inspired the message behind these songs?
Just day to day struggles really. We all have been going through different things in our life yet we have all been able to keep pushing forward. And we really wanted to let people know that they aren’t alone in the day to day struggle.
What moment in life does Indecision To Move represent for you?
Honestly the past year and even now. We wrote this album talking about self motivation and finding what you want to do. It’s something we still are learning to deal with and because of that the album still has a significant relevance.
What do you hope listeners will take away from the songs or message on Indecision To Move?
I’d like people to know when listening to this record that whatever’s going on, it’s okay. Whether you’re in a place in life that you feel like nothing could get any worse, or in the best place of your life to the point you might feel guilty for being so happy, it’s okay. Own whatever you’re feeling, own whatever’s going on. You’re human, life has it’s ups and downs, you just gotta roll with it & take control.
With the album out now and the year winding down, do you have any big plans for 2018?
Well definitely checking out Avengers Infinity War. Other than that we are wanting to get out in front of new faces and hopefully work on some new tunes.
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Check out Indecision To Move on Spotify, ITunes, etc. and eat your carrots they’re good for your eyesight.
