Interview by Shannon Shumaker
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself for any readers who might not be familiar?
Hi! My name is Jenny March… I’m an only child, a Gemini, and I’m an extremely picky eater. I’d be completely happy having chicken tenders and fries every day.
Although you’ve done a bit of acting, you’re currently focusing on your music career – what ultimately drew you to music and made you want to become more involved?
I was drawn to music at an early age. My mom’s side of the family were big dancers, so I started dance classes when I was 2 years old. Then I started singing and acting at church and school. It wasn’t until I moved to L.A. that I realized I could pursue music as a living here, and not just acting. Music has always been my biggest passion.
You recently released your new single, “California Daze.” What inspired the song?
I wrote this song about one of the first guys I dated. He was someone who I thought was so cool and mysterious, and when I found out he liked me too, we just had a lot of fun together. It was one of those exhilarating relationships we all have had that don’t really last longer than the honeymoon phase.
As an Ohio native who now lives in California, how so do you feel your hometown and current location have affected your music?
I think being from the Midwest has definitely helped shape who I am as a person and I think with that, has affected my music in ways. Since I moved to L.A. when I was teenager, I was heavily influenced by the people and the lifestyle here. You can really do anything you want here and I loved that.
Last year, you spent some time working on a new EP. When can listeners expect to hear some more music from it?
I’m going to release the next single off the EP in the next month or two.
For these songs, you teamed up with Tony Rodini. What was the experience like working with him?
It was so natural and enjoyable to work with Tony. We had a lot of fun in the studio together. During our first session together, we found out that we had a lot of mutual friends and so we saw each other a lot after we finished my EP.
When can fans expect to hear some more new music from the EP?
Very soon! By April for sure.
What would you like listeners to take away from the EP?
I hope that people find the songs to be a fun, feel good experience. After listening, it’s my desire that they feel like they don’t need to change themselves for anyone. I want them to feel confident in who they are.
Do you have any other big plans or goals for 2018?
I have a music video for my single “California Daze” coming out. It’s going to be my first music video so I’m super excited for it! I also plan to play some live shows in L.A. and its surrounding areas, and continue writing new music.
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?
