Interview by Shannon Shumaker
Can you tell us a little bit about Slow Bloom for any readers who might be hearing you for the first time?
Slow Bloom is a noisey rock band with post punk and grunge influences, like At the Drive-In and Nirvana had a baby.
Like many other bands, you guys have been involved in other projects prior to Slow Bloom. What makes this one special to you?
This is the first project we went into with no pretension, no hang up on what genre we belong to or anything, just coming together to make jammers and bang our heads.
Back in January, you kicked off the new year with your debut release, Hex Hex Hex. When you first started working on those songs, did you have any major goals in mind? What did you want to accomplish?
We knew we wanted to release another EP, the first EP we released were really old songs we had wrote in early jam sessions in 2014/15 and we wanted to further solidify the Slow Bloom style before we tackled a full length.
It being some of the first music that many people will hear from you, what would you like listeners to take away from Hex Hex Hex?
I think we want people to take away a neck ache from hanging their head so much.
How do you feel you’ve grown with the writing and recording (and now the release) of the album? Did you learn anything new in the process?
Every song we write is a learning experience, learning how to write together, and further than that we grow as musicians too. We all come from bands that didn’t have melody in mind so writing choruses and catchy songs has taken a second to catch on.
We’ve got a little announcement coming up that promises some shows, and then we’ll take it from there and hopefully tour some more this year.
Do you have any other big plans for 2018?
Touring and hopefully recording the full length this summer!
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?
To keep twirling, twirling, TWIIIIRLING towards freedom!
